Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to beat Grimsby Town 5-1 in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
Sheffield Wednesday headed to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, looking to avoid a third-straight defeat in all competitions.
Last time out, Danny Rohl’s side lost 2-0 vs Leeds United at Hillsborough, coming off the back of a 4-0 demolition at the hands of Sunderland.
In the previous round of the cup, Sheffield Wednesday beat Hull City 2-0.
Once again, Rohl made vast changes to his XI, but his side were a goal down at half-time with Grimsby taking the lead through Cameron McJannett.
Rohl then made several changes at the break and got his side in front, courtesy of goals from Ike Ugbo, Jamal Lowe, two from Callum Paterson, and one for Pol Valentin.

Pierce Charles isn’t ready for Championship football at Sheffield Wednesday
There remains a lot of hope and expectation for Pierce Charles in the future. But he showed against Grimsby that he’s not quite at the level required to play in the Championship.
He started the game vs Grimsby with James Beadle on the bench. And although Charles didn’t make any glaring errors, there were moments when he didn’t look overly-confident on the ball vs Grimsby.
Charles is tipped to stay at Sheffield Wednesday this summer, despite loan interest, but it looks like Charles will need some practise before he’s ready to be the regular no.1.

Marvin Johnson presence has been sorely missed in the Championship
Although Grimsby are League Two opposition, Marvin Johnson was a threat for Sheffield Wednesday on the night.
He was lively in the first half in particular, getting up and down the flank and putting in some good crosses, whilst even having some attempts on goal himself.
Max Lowe has been starting at left-back in the Championship. The former Sheffield United man is currently offering very little, though, and so it may be time for Johnson to retake his place in the side.

Callum Paterson can still be of use to Sheffield Wednesday
Ahead of deadline day on Friday, it’s been claimed that Sheffield Wednesday are willing to sell Paterson.
Paterson was lacklustre in the first half. But he bagged a brace in the second half, reminding Rohl of his qualities in attack.
Whether or not Paterson still boasts quality at Championship level remains to be seen, as he’s not really been tested yet this season.
But Paterson’s brace may well give Rohl a tough decision to make ahead of deadline day, or it could well be a nice send-off for Paterson.
