Sheffield Wednesday are into the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Sheffield Wednesday played their first away game of the season on Wednesday night, travelling to the Humber to face Championship rivals Hull City in the Carabao Cup.

Danny Rohl’s side went into the game on a high after beating Plymouth Argyle 4-0 on the opening day of the season, leaving the Owls top of the Championship table.

Despite the strong start, Rohl named a fully changed Sheffield Wednesday XI vs Hull City handing starts to several lesser-seen players, with full debuts for summer signings Olaf Kobacki and Charlie McNeill.

And former Manchester United man McNeill would score his first goal for Wednesday within 20 seconds, adding another just one minute after the Owls conceded.

After the break, Sheffield Wednesday certainly did a lot more defending than they did in the first 45.

But the Owls still had their share of opportunities in attack, and held on for what is an impressive win on the road.

Here are our player ratings for the game vs Hull City…

Pierce Charles

Once again showed his quality with the ball at his feet, if one or two nervy moments in doing so. Barely had any saves to make. 7/10

Marvin Johnson

Reminded Rohl of his danger in attack. Got forward on several occasions and created some scoring opportunities. Unfortunate to not have an assists on the night. 7/10

Michael Ihiekwe

Probably should’ve scored from a corner in the first half. Made a good block before the break. 6/10

Bambo Diaby

Made some good interventions in the game. Bit shaky at times but didn’t really put a foot wrong. 6/10

Pol Valentin

Went down too easily for Hull’s goal in the first half. Couldn’t get forward too often. Definitely not his best performance. 5/10

Liam Palmer

Covered ground well in midfield. Commanded and organised a very makeshift team, if without doing anything too spectacular. 6/10

Sean Fusire

Looked very impressive in what was his third first-team appearance for the Owls. Composed on the ball. Very strong in possession too. 7/10

Olaf Kobacki

Showed some definite bright sparks in the game. Forward-thinking player who seems to suit the Rohl style. 6/10

Charlie McNeill

Took his first goal well and was alert for the second. A very impressive debut. 8/10

Callum Paterson

Really couldn’t get into the game. Worked hard, as you’d expect from Paterson. But it wasn’t a very memorable performance. 5/10

Michael Smith

Worked hard throughout. He’s certainly giving Rohl some food for thought as Ike Ugbo nears a first start since signing. 7/10

Substitutes: Bailey Cadamarteri (5), Djeidi Gassama (5), Ike Ugbo (N/A), Barry Bannan (N/A), Gabriel Otegbayo (N/A).
