And Sheffield Wednesday beat Plymouth Argyle 4-0 thanks to goals from Jamal Lowe, Josh Windass, Michael Smith, and an own goal too.

It comes after Danny Rohl’s side signed 10 new players during the off-season, with Sheffield Wednesday completing the signing Ike Ugbo last week.

Jeff Stelling wowed by Anthony Musaba during Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 Plymouth Argyle

Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan appeared on talkSPORT after the Plymouth game, to talk about his side’s opening win.

Bannan said he was surprised by the attendance which came in at 29,535, incisions 1,300 away fans.

Stelling though outlined his admiration for Anthony Musaba during the game, saying: “Lot to like about yesterday, Barry, obviously your own performance, Anthony Musaba as well, I thought he was absolutely outstanding.”

Against Plymouth, Musaba recorded two shots on target (second-most of any player) and finished the game with an xG of 0.77 (third-most). The flying Dutchman also won five out of 13 duels.

Anthony Musaba can be Sheffield Wednesday’s key player this season

Upon his first few games last season, the main thought about Musaba was that he had ability, but he was still a very raw talent.

Eventually, the former Monaco man went on to score seven goals and assist five more in 43 Championship outings, proving crucial in the run-in with some important, match-winning goals in games against the likes of Stoke City and QPR.

Now with a season of English football under his belt, he’ll be expected to kick on, and against Plymouth he looked very good.

Musaba is really getting to grips with the Rohl style of play, as are his teammates, with the style very much suiting wide players like Musaba and Djeidi Gassama, who’s on a very similar trajectory to Musaba at Sheffield Wednesday.

If Musaba can go on to reach double figures this season and show overall improvements in his game, he could quickly become a very valuable asset for owner Dejphon Chansiri.
