On Sunday, Sheffield Wednesday thumped Plymouth Argyle in their opening game of the season.
Sheffield Wednesday got off to a resounding start in the 2024/25 Championship season after thumping Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle 4-0.
The Owls went ahead after Jamal Lowe scored on his debut, then doubling their lead through an own goal, with Josh Windass and Michael Smith also scoring after the break.
As things stand, Sheffield Wednesday top the Championship table.
TalkSPORT pundit Jeff Stelling has played down Sheffield Wednesday’s promotion chances this season but many are quietly optimistic about the Owls’ hopes this season.
Once again, Sheffield Wednesday fans packed out Hillsborough for what proved to be a memorable opening day win for Danny Rohl’s side.
Sources online put the attendance at 29,535 with around 1,300 away fans.

And speaking to Stelling on talkSPORT, club captain Barry Bannan gave his verdict on the attendance vs Plymouth Argyle, with Sheffield Wednesday fans turning out in numbers.

Barry Bannan wowed by Sheffield Wednesday fans against Plymouth Argyle
Bannan signed a new Sheffield Wednesday contract earlier this summer, keeping him at the club for at least another season.
He started in the midfield alongside Svante Ingelsson, who impressed the Owls fans, with Bannan almost getting on the score-sheet too.
Speaking about the attendance at Hillsborough, Bannan had this to say: “I couldn’t believe it myself, to be honest.
“I thought with all these games being on TV over the weekend that you might see a drop in attendances, but we came out yesterday and it was packed.
“We [the players] were a bit surprised as well.”

Sheffield Wednesday on live TV in August
Sheffield Wednesday are live on Sky Sports throughout August.
Their upcoming game away vs Hull City in the Carabao Cup isn’t, but their following Championship games vs Sunderland and Leeds United are.
Sheffield Wednesday have had mixed results when playing on Sky before, but this season and this month could be very different.
Under Rohl, the Owls look so much more confident and well-drilled, and determined to show the league what they’ve been working on this summer.
Sunderland won their opening game whilst Leeds drew with Portsmouth.
Both games will be difficult, but both will be exciting to watch; the Leeds game at Hillsborough especially.
Expect the fans to turn out in their numbers both home and way this season, with Rohl having given fans their optimism back after a very tough 2023/24 season in the Championship.
