And it comes at a good time for Danny Rohl and his first-team squad, who’ve experienced a dip in form.
After winning their opening two games of the season (one in the Championship and then the Carabao Cup), Sheffield Wednesday suffered back-to-back defeats in the league.
Last time out, Leeds United beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough, putting a huge dampener on the Owls’ early optimism this season.
Defensively, Rohl’s side have looked very weak. And it also seems as though the Owls have been quickly sussed out going forward, with both Sunderland and Leeds limiting their chances in the last two outings.
A defensive midfielder seems to be a key potential signing for Rohl with Sheffield Wednesday missing Will Vaulks, or so it seems.
Recently, it’s been claimed that Sheffield Wednesday are set to sign Shea Charles on loan from Southampton.

After some nervy days waiting for an update on Charles, Sheffield Wednesday fans have finally got one.
Journalist Joe Crann says that the former Manchester City youngster, who’s younger brother Pierce Charles is currently Sheffield Wednesday’s no.2 goalkeeper, is ‘in Sheffield in order to complete his move’ to S6.

Charles arriving certainly looks like it’ll plug a gap in the side, and provide some much-needed coverage in front of the defence.
But assuming that Charles takes a starting spot in front of the defence, it’ll mean one of Barry Bannan or Svante Ingelsson dropping to the bench, or Rohl changing his formation completely.
Both Rohl’s favoured formations play two midfielders in front of the defence and so it seems likely that one of Bannan or Ingelsson will start on the bench more often than not.
Sheffield Wednesday are badly in need of a player like Charles in the XI, and going off recent performances, many might tip Bannan to drop down to the bench.
It’s certainly a difficult one for Rohl to weigh up, but Charles looks like a strong signing nonetheless.
