Teenager can save Sheffield Wednesday millions, but Rohl must throw him in the deep end

Sheffield Wednesday, since the arrival of Danny Rohl, have placed a lot more focus on their youth academy.

Everything about Sheffield Wednesday seems to be moving in the right direction.

After some turbulent years under owner Dejphon Chansiri, the last season perhaps being the most turbulent, things are looking up.

Off the pitch, Sheffield Wednesday have signed 10 new players this summer, with Chansiri earning praise from fans for dipping into his pockets.

Th Owls clinched the £3million signing of Ike Ugbo last week, with the Canadian becoming their 10th signing of the summer so far.

Sheffield Wednesday appointed Danny Rohl in October last year, in a move that kick-started all this current positivity.

Rohl has changed the outlook both on and off the pitch, completely transforming Sheffield Wednesday into an attractive place to play, and into dark horses in the Championship play-off race.

Another huge change he’s made at Hillsborough is the club’s emphasis on its youth academy, and on youth progression.

Sheffield Wednesday gem Sean Fusire impresses vs Hull City

Almost immediately after arriving in S6, Rohl spoke about how he wanted to bridge the gap between the first-team and the youth academy.

He did just that, promoting Bailey Cadamarteri and watching the striker flourish.

Others have followed, albeit with differing results; Pierce Charles, Gui Siqueira, and Joey Phuthi are among them.

Sean Fusire is the latest. Sheffield Wednesday fans were impressed by Fusire during the midweek Carabao Cup win vs Hull City, with Rohl starting the 19-year-old in the centre of midfield.

And with Sheffield Wednesday keen to sign a central midfielder this summer, Rohl should consider giving Fusire some more game time instead.

Danny Rohl must repeat Cadamarteri trick with Sean Fusire at Sheffield Wednesday

Cadamarteri was thrown in at the deep end for Sheffield Wednesday, earning his first league start for the club against a Leicester City side who were top of the league at the time.

Quickly, Cadamarteri became a key first-team player. He also proved that the Wednesday academy can produce some ready-made players, and Fusire, going off his performance vs Hull City, could be the next.

He more than held his own against a strong Hull City, showcasing his strength in possession, and his all-round midfield abilities including tackling, passing, and moving forward with the ball.

With the Owls in need of a midfielder, or at least being linked with a few, Rohl should consider giving Fusire some minutes between now and deadline day, to see if he could potentially save the club buying or loaning in a new midfielder this summer.
