Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has some selection headaches to mull over this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday travel to Sunderland in the Championship on Sunday, where they’ll look to extend their winning start to the season.

The Owls thumped Plymouth Argyle on the opening day before claiming a 2-1 win vs Hull City in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Danny Rohl’s side have now won their last five competitive matches in streak stretching back to last season.

The final game of last season was a trip to Sunderland; Sheffield Wednesday secured Championship safety with a 2-0 win that day.

In this 2024/25 season, the Owls appear to have much different aspirations, bu Rohl will continue to manage expectations, and take every game as it comes.

Sheffield Wednesday team and injury news vs Sunderland

Sheffield Wednesday carry a few minor injuries into this weekend.

Akin Famewo and Nathaniel Chalobah are injured, though Rohl has stressed that both injuries are only minor.

Goalkeeper Ben Hamer is injured and remains out for some time longer.

There was speculation that Max Lowe has sustained an injury, though that has since been played down.

Earlier this week, Rohl gave an update on Ike Ugbo’s fitness, suggesting that the striker is a while away from being in starting contention.

Sheffield Wednesday predicted XI vs Sunderland

There were some impressive performances against Hull City.

Rohl completely changed the XI but the style and quality remained the same, with some standout performances from the likes of Charlie McNeill.

Sheffield Wednesday fans were impressed by Sean Fusire too, and he could yet become a rotational player in the engine room this season.

But after such a complete opening day performance, and with everyone well-rested, expect an unchanged XI from the opening day win vs Plymouth.

Here’s how we think Sheffield Wednesday will line up vs Sunderland…
