Sheffield Wednesday are set to fly out to Germany later this week for their second pre-season training camp.

Sheffield Wednesday recently concluded their time training at St George’s Park and will now jet off to the home of Danny Rohl as they prepare for another two friendlies on European soil.

They will travel across the border for this weekend’s clash with RB Salzburg in Austria, before taking on Werder Bremen six days later.

Rohl will be eager to get a better look at his nine new signings on the pitch, with the likes of Nathaniel Chalobah and Charlie McNeill having yet to join the club in their previous friendly against Alfreton Town.

One player who did get a look-in in Derbyshire was Ben Hamer, who played 45 minutes as he kept a clean sheet against the National League North outfit.

Ben Hamer could miss out on Sheffield Wednesday training camp

The ‘fantastic’ goalkeeper will have been hoping to get some more minutes under his belt in Austria, but there are now question marks over whether he will even be on the plane this week.

According to The Star, Hamer picked up an injury in pre-season training and it is currently unknown whether he will be fit for their second camp of the summer.

James Beadle will be available to make his first appearance since re-signing the club though, while Jack Hall could fill in for Hamer over the next week.

Danny Rohl’s options are thin in Austria

Pierce Charles is also currently away enjoying an ‘outstanding’ start to Northern Ireland’s U19 Euro campaign, leaving Rohl with few options in between the sticks.

Hamer knows he isn’t going to be No.1 at Hillsborough, but he will be eager to make a good impression before the season starts so that he can guarantee himself a place on the bench.

The extent of his injury is unclear, but if there is still the possibility that he is included in the squad to travel to Germany then it can’t be anything too concerning.

It will be refreshing to see Hall given a chance though, while it could well be his last game for Wednesday for a while if they opt to send him out on loan.
