Sheffield Wednesday have had great success with Shea Charles so far. And there might be another Southampton gem who takes Danny Rohl’s fancy.
Sheffield Wednesday signed Shea Charles on loan from Southampton during the summer transfer window, with the Northern Ireland midfielder being the club’s 11th and final signing of the summer.
Since, the 21-year-old has shone in the Championship. He’s featured 13 times and Charles has even been made Northern Ireland captain since arriving at Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday fans were critical of Charles against Cardiff City last time out. But on the whole, he’s been a vital player for the Owls.
Ahead of January, Danny Rohl has shared fears about Charles being recalled. But Southampton have no intentions of recalling Charles at this moment in time.
In fact, the Saints seem to be keen on sending yet more players out on loan in January, despite their Premier League struggles under Russell Martin, and one of them could be ideal for Sheffield Wednesday.

Southampton pondering Ronnie Edwards loan exit in January
During the summer transfer window, Southampton signed centre-back Ronnie Edwards from Peterborough United in a reported £3million deal.
But the 21-year-old is yet to feature in the Premier League and now, Martin has suggested that Edwards could be loaned out in January.
Asked about the centre-back’s situation ahead of January, and the possibility of a loan exit, Martin told Daily Echo: “We’re in constant conversation about it and I think it’s something we’ll assess closer to January as well.”
Martin also highlighted Charles’ success out on loan, adding: “Maybe it’s best for him [Edwards] to go and play football for six months in the Championship and get that development in the same way Shea Charles is.”

Who is Ronnie Edwards, and why would he be a good fit for Sheffield Wednesday?
Going into this season, it was clear that Sheffield Wednesday were light on centre-backs, and that’s become especially true since Akin Famewo has picked up an injury.
Speaking earlier in November, Carlton Palmer said Sheffield Wednesday would be a perfect fit for Dion Sanderson at Birmingham City, given the centre-back’s lack of game time and Wednesday’s lack of options. Edwards is in the same boat.
He was a man in demand in the summer following three impressive seasons in League One with Peterborough United, having made well over 100 EFL appearances already in his career.
He caught the eye because of his ball-playing ability and in a Rohl side that plays out from the back, someone like Edwards on loan for the second half of the campaign could be ideal.
And Sheffield Wednesday have already shown Southampton that Hillsborough is a good place for players to develop, given Charles’ success, so it could be a move that’s very realistic too.
