Sheffield Wednesday are out of embargo ahead of the January transfer window. And there could be one perfect signing for the Owls.
Earlier in November, Sheffield Wednesday were lifted out of embargo, after two weeks under registration embargo due to money owed to HMRC.
The initial news gave Owls fans plenty to worry about ahead of January with Danny Rohl’s side in need of some new recruits if they’re to move further up the Championship table.
Previously, we revealed that Sheffield Wednesday will be restricted in January, and that remains the case. But loan deals could be a good option for Rohl’s side.
Earlier in the season, Rohl said Sheffield Wednesday could focus on loan signings in January having had success with that in the last January transfer window.
And it looks like a new centre-back or defensive player could be a priority for Rohl given the injury to Akin Famewo and the general lack of depth at centre-back especially.

Sheffield Wednesday ‘may be interested’ in Dion Sanderson at Birmingham City
Speaking to Football League World, former Owl Carlton Palmer has now backed Sheffield Wednesday to be a good fit for Birmingham City centre-back Dion Sanderson.
Blues signed 24-year-old Sanderson for £2million from neighbours Wolves in the summer of 2023. But he’s played just twice in League One this season and is being tipped to move on in January.
Palmer said: “He’s capable of playing at Championship level, he is capable of doing that, so he’s going to be coveted by some football clubs.
“But it makes sense for both parties to go their separate ways. One of the clubs that may be interested in him is Sheffield Wednesday.
“They’re in need of a centre-back, and they’ve changed to playing a back-three, so he could be an ideal fit for somebody like Sheffield Wednesday, and he would have a point to prove, with Birmingham City relegated, and he’s going to a club in the Championship.”

Dion Sanderson stats so far, including Championship appearances
Sanderson, like many of his Birmingham City teammates, didn’t have an amazing season last time round.
He featured 37 times in the Championship as Blues were relegated, captaining the side and playing in the heart of a defence that conceded 65 goals.
But he already has 104 Championship appearances to his name and has proven himself in this division previously, like Palmer says, impressing with the likes of Cardiff City on loan, and then on loan at Birmingham City in the 2022/23 campaign.
Sanderson is also capable of playing at right-back which could come in handy for Rohl, who’d likely deploy Sanderson as the right centre-back should Dominic Iorfa be injured, or directly in the middle should Di’Shon Bernard be unavailable.
