Sheffield Wednesday fans may be hoping for a busy January transfer window, after what was a very busy summer transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesday made nine new signings during the summer. And the Owls look much better for it with Danny Rohl’s side currently sitting in 13th place of the Championship table.
It comes after a Sheffield Wednesday comeback win at Portsmouth last weekend, followed up by a spirited performance in the Carabao Cup defeat at Brentford in midweek.
The Owls host Watford this weekend. It’s the first of 12 games standing between Wednesday and the January transfer window, and if the Owls are to become dark horses in the top six race then January will be crucial.
Speaking during the Brentford game, Clinton Morrison backed Sheffield Wednesday’s top six chances this season, saying they have an outside chance.

Sheffield Wednesday’s January transfer budget revealed
Sheffield Wednesday News can reveal that, unlike the summer, there will be very few resources available for the January transfer window.
Sources have revealed that the Owls will be quite ‘restricted’ in what they can do in January and that the loan market will be the main area of focus for the club.
It comes after Sheffield Wednesday paid £2.5million for Ike Ugbo in the summer, also spending money on Yan Valery and Olaf Kobacki.
In the 2024 January transfer window, Sheffield Wednesday hit the loan market, bringing in Kristian Pedersen, Ian Poveda, James Beadle, and Ugbo, with the latter three making a significant impact as the Owls beat the drop.

Danny Rohl drops January loan hint ahead of 2025
Speaking earlier in October, Rohl revealed that he was set to hold talks with owner Dejphon Chansiri and head of recruitment Kevin Beadell with regards to the January transfer window.
He said: “I’ll have a good conversation with our chairman, with Kevin. It goes in the right direction and January you know… what is possible, what is not possible in January, but we will try.”
Rohl also suggested that the loan market could be an area of focus for his side once again, saying: “We will look what’s on the market.
“Last year we did well with good loans. It could be maybe, a way in January to get an immediate impact.
“But I think we are, at the moment, too far away to speak about January.”
Sheffield Wednesday are also looking to finalise contracts well before the end of the season, with Pol Valentin and Akin Famewo among those out of contract in 2025, and among those being eyed for a new deal.
