One Sheffield Wednesday star is reportedly set to be handed a new deal by the club.

The Owls have managed to turn around their fortunes since their poor start to the 2024/25 Championship campaign, and it really looks to be that the Coventry City win will prove to be crucial for Danny Rohl.

S6 was full of optimism in the build up to the season, and whilst that has slightly depleted due to the results on the board at this early stage of the campaign, the hopes of Sheffield Wednesday fans are now back on the up due to the Coventry in.

Off the pitch, it seems like a worrying situation may arise with several Owls players set to run out of contract at the end of this campaign, Sheffield Wednesday are proactively looking to tie down their most prized assets.

They have looked to offer Akin Famewo a new contract to keep him at the club for the future, whilst Sheffield Wednesday have also reportedly shown an interest in keeping another star player at the club.

Sheffield Wednesday gem Pol Valentin set for contract talks

Sheffield Wednesday wing-back Pol Valentin was handed a surprise start in the win against Coventry City, and whilst it would take a lot to live up to the high standards set by his key competitor in the position, Yan Valery, he managed to put in an assured performance that could likely see him start the games following the second international break.

The Owls’ ‘fan-favourite’ without doubt was handed plenty of deserved praise for his showing, and he as a result is also reportedly likely to be handed with a new deal, with Sheffield Wednesday ‘keen’ for a deal to take place, per The Star.

The Spanish defender joined the club in July 2023, and has since been handed 43 Championship appearances, 26 of which saw him start.

Sheffield Wednesday taking correct approach with contract expiries

What seems to be a fairly difficult situation on paper for Sheffield Wednesday in regards to contracts running, Rohl and the club have done incredibly well to act proactively with the issue.

The likes of Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer are also out of contract in the summer and time will tell whether they correctly follow suit by looking to keep the legendary Wednesday pair at the club, whilst Anthony Musaba and Marvin Johnson’s deal are also set to expire this summer.

Not only are Sheffield Wednesday making the correct decisions in regards to offering deals for their players, they have gone about it at a brilliant time to ensure that their players’ futures are decided and there is no ambiguity over their future.

Ultimately, a lot of this will be down to Rohl and many players looking to continue under the German boss as a result of his ability to develop players, and it is brilliant to see the club utilising him in looking to tie down their top talents.
