Sheffield Wednesday host Watford in the Championship this weekend, kick-starting another congested run of fixtures in the second tier.

For Sheffield Wednesday, the visit of Watford marks the start of another tricky three game week, ending with the Steel City derby at Bramall Lane before another international break.

The Owls currently sit in 13th place of the Championship table after a comeback win at Portsmouth last time out, courtesy of goals from Josh Windass and Michael Smith.

Watford meanwhile sit in 7th and level on points with West Brom in 6th, with Tom Cleverley’s side claiming an impressive 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in their last outing.

Sheffield Wednesday lost against Brentford in the Carabao Cup in midweek with Danny Rohl making nine changes to his starting XI, leaving his key players fresh for the game against Watford.

Sam Parkin shares his Sheffield Wednesday vs Watford score prediction

Speaking on the Championship Check-In podcast, EFL pundit Sam Parkin gave his verdict on the game between Sheffield Wednesday and Watford at Hillsborough.

He said: “This isn’t based on what I saw on Friday, because I thought they were very underwhelming for 45 minutes.

“I thought Danny Rohl made two bold substitutions at half-time. I thought [Yan] Valery who came on, his position on the right-hand side, he was really high, and [Josh] Windass, [Jamal] Lowe, and [Michael] Smith were just closer together in the second period.

“They just controlled the ball and all the game was in Portsmouth’s half. Tactically I think Danny Rohl is one of the best.

“And at Hillsborough, and given Watford’s away record, despite not thinking that they were a brilliant side [at Portsmouth], I’d still back them, and back them quite heavily here.

“I’ll go for Sheffield Wednesday to beat Watford 2-0.”

Sheffield Wednesday vs Watford H2H

Last season, the Owls lost 1-0 at Vicarage Road. But Sheffield Wednesday drew 0-0 with Watford in the reverse fixture in S6.

Sheffield Wednesday though haven’t beaten Watford for more than 10 years now, with their last win over the Hornets coming way back in 2013.

And the Owls’ last home win against Watford was back in 2010 with the Hornets having been a bit of a bogey team for Wednesday in recent years.

Of the last 10 meetings between the two, Watford have won six compared to Wednesday’s two.

Though like Parkin points out, Watford have a pretty woeful away record this season having taken just three points on the road, leaving them 21st in the Championship away form table.

Sheffield Wednesday however sit in 20th place of the home form table having taken eight points from a possible 18 at Hillsborough this season.
