Sheffield Wednesday gave a thorough account of themselves in their Carabao Cup defeat against Brentford on Tuesday night.

Sheffield Wednesday once again put on a show for the Sky Sports cameras, going toe to toe with Brentford on Tuesday night but ultimately losing on penalties.

Djeidi Gassama scored the goal for what was a makeshift Owls XI, with only two players keeping their spots following the 2-1 win at Portsmouth last Friday.

After the game, Sky Sports pundit Curtis Davies named Pierce Charles the Man of the Match for Sheffield Wednesday, whilst Clinton Morrison spoke fondly of Dejphon Chansiri for the appointment of Rohl last year.

But here are four things you might have missed, both during and after Sheffield Wednesday’s game at Brentford…

Dom Howson hails ‘special’ Pierce Charles

Charles certainly caught the eye against Brentford. He made four saves on the night but more impressively lead the Owls for accurate passes and touches of the ball.

The Northern Ireland international never looked daunted by the strong Brentford line up. Nor did he put a foot wrong against the high-pressing Bees attack.

Journalist Dom Howson was full of praise for Charles on X, posting:

Callum Paterson shares game time frustration

Callum Paterson made what’s become a rare start for Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, even captaining the side on the night.

He played in the midfield, one again showcasing his versatility as he put in a combative performance, with one particular tackle during the game reminding everyone of his battling qualities.

After the game, though, Paterson shared his frustrations at his lack of game time in the Championship, having made just three substitute appearances in the league so far.

He said: “It’s frustrating, obviously, being left out, week in week out. But hopefully I’ve given the gaffer a few problems tonight to include me.”

Danny Rohl reaction after Sheffield Wednesday defeat vs Brentford

After the game, as he often does after a strong performance, Rohl took to social media with a message for fans.

He posted on his Instagram story: “Great team performance. Take the good spirit into the next games.”

Sheffield Wednesday play against Watford at Hillsborough this weekend, then having a midweek game against Norwich City at home, before playing Sheffield United the following weekend.

Chris Powell message after receiving MBE

Sheffield Wednesday’s beloved first-team coach Chris Powell was awarded an MBE this week, during a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Powell’s family attended him to the event as he was recognised for his services to football. After receiving his award, the 55-year-old posted on X:
