A former Sheffield Wednesday loan star has spoken out about his love for the club, following what was a very tough spell prior to moving to S6.

Sheffield Wednesday often make use of the loan market, and they look set to do so again in the upcoming January transfer window.

Danny Rohl has already suggested that Sheffield Wednesday will focus on loan signings in January after having so much success in doing so last January.

The Owls signed the likes of Ike Ugbo, Ian Poveda, and James Beadle on loan, with all three going on to play key roles in the great escape.

Now with Sheffield Wednesday having just come out of embargo, it looks like loan signings may have to be the focus because of the tough financial situation at Hillsborough.

But if Rohl can have any similar success to last season’s January loan signings then it’ll hold Sheffield Wednesday in good stead for the second half of the season.

Recently, another impressive former loan player for the Owls have spoken out about his time at the club, and how much he enjoyed playing at Hillsborough.

Harlee Dean speaks out on Sheffield Wednesday loan after Birmingham City fall out

Harlee Dean, 33, spent time on loan with Sheffield Wednesday during the 2021/22 League One season, joining from Birmingham City in the January transfer window of that campaign.

The centre-back went on to make nine League One appearances as the Owls finished 4th under Darren Moore, losing in the play-off semi-finals to Sunderland.

Dean joined on loan from Birmingham City after falling out of favour under then manager Lee Bowyer.

Speaking on Under The Cosh, Dean said of his time in S6: “I signed for Sheffield Wednesday in January and I just fell back in love with football again. I didn’t realise that I needed it so much. How much Birmingham had just sucked it out of me.

“That weren’t being part of a football club at Birmingham. It was just, grind, surviving, whereas Wednesday, I dropped down to League One but we was going for promotion. Enjoyment was back. Dressing room was just bouncing.

“It felt like good times were coming. It was enjoyable. We were playing good football. We were dominating games. And they’re a massive club, by they way. When that place [Hillsborough] is rocking, it’s a proper place to play.”

What is Harlee Dean up to these days?

Dean has more than 500 career appearances to his name having spent a lot of time with both Brentford and Birmingham City.

In 2023, Birmingham City released former skipper Dean after six years and he then signed a two-year deal with Reading in League One.

Since, Dean has made 18 league appearances for the Royals who remain in a very difficult off-field situation. Despite that, they currently sit in 8th place of the League One table.

This season, Dean has featured seven times in League One, often being in and out of the matchday squad owing to form and injury.
