Cardiff City frustrated Sheffield Wednesday in their lunchtime clash on Saturday, eventually leaving Hillsborough with a point.
Sheffield Wednesday welcomed Cardiff City to Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon. And when the team news came out at 2pm, it was clear that Danny Rohl was going for the win.
Winger Djeidi Gassama played in an unfamiliar right wing-back role whilst Rohl also named two strikers in the XI, with both Michael Smith and Ike Ugbo up top.
Rohl keeps on defending Ugbo’s form at Sheffield Wednesday and the Canadian looked up for the fight against Cardiff, having a goal disallowed in the first minute.
Di’Shon Bernard scored for the Owls soon after they conceded to Ollie Tanner on the counter-attack, though Wednesday were angered in the second half, unable to break Cardiff down.
The Owls now sit in 15th place of the Championship table after 16 games now, with just four points separating Wednesday and Tuesday’s opponents Hull City in 22nd.

Barry Bannan left fuming at referee Andrew Kitchen vs Cardiff City
Andrew Kitchen was the referee for Sheffield Wednesday against Cardiff City. And once again Owls fans were left perplexed about how they didn’t receive a penalty, with two separate incidents being definite penalty shouts.
Earlier in the season, Kitchen left Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney fuming with one of his decisions, and he left Owls skipper Barry Bannan equally fuming during the game against Cardiff City.
Sheffield Wednesday were starting to pick up speed ahead of half-time, and Bannan passed the ball out to Marvin Johnson in a nice attacking position on the left.
But despite Wednesday being on the attack, Kitchen blew for half-time. Bannan was visibly angry, throwing his arms in the air before heading towards Kitchen for an explanation.

The latest on Barry Bannan’s Sheffield Wednesday future
Speaking recently, Rohl revealed that Sheffield Wednesday contract talks are underway, with Pol Valentin and Akin Famewo two names reportedly in line for new deals.
And there’s been a lot of chatter about Bannan’s future with many believing him to be out of contract at the end of this season, although there’s never been any official confirmation of that.
Speaking in October amid his fine run of form in the Championship, Bannan spoke out on his Sheffield Wednesday future.
The 34-year-old said: “It’s a place that I hold dear in my heart. I love it here. I’d love to end my career at Hillsborough if it was down to me.
“I’ve made that clear over a number of years now, I want to finish my career here. Sadly, sometimes that doesn’t happen in football.”
Sheffield Wednesday take on Hull City in the Championship Tuesday night.
