Ahead of the January transfer window, there seems to be a lot of talk about players potentially leaving Sheffield Wednesday.

Several Sheffield Wednesday players look as though they could be on the move in January, or potentially at the end of this season with several contracts out.

Recently, there’s been transfer interest in Pol Valentin who’s one of the players out of contract next summer.

However, Sheffield Wednesday are working on a contract for Valentin, following his arrival at the club in 2023.

Elsewhere, Callum Paterson is tipped to leave Sheffield Wednesday in January with his contract also out next summer.

Another who’s thought to be out of contract in 2025 is Barry Bannan, who signed a new Sheffield Wednesday contract during the pre-season.

Recently, Danny Rohl spoke about Bannan’s Sheffield Wednesday future, and the eventual difficulties he’ll face in relacing the 24-year-old.

Barry Bannan speaks out on Sheffield Wednesday future

Now, long-serving Owls skipper Bannan has had his say on his future at Hillsborough.

He’s quoted by The Star as saying: “Talk about my future has happened a lot recently! You just get used to it.

“I feel great at the minute. I’ve played every game this season, even the cup games I’ve been involved in those as well.

“If I can keep doing this then hopefully that will put an end to ‘this is his last year’ talk again!

“I’ve been here a long time. They’ve been brilliant with me since I walked through the door. I’ve got a close bond with the fans and the club.

“It’s a place that I hold dear in my heart. I love it here. I’d love to end my career at Hillsborough if it was down to me.

“I’ve made that clear over a number of years now, I want to finish my career here. Sadly, sometimes that doesn’t happen in football. It’s down to the manager and the chairman, if they can keep putting up with me!

“I’m just concentrating on living a good lifestyle away from football. I’ve done that for a good few years now and I feel as fit as I did when I first came in at Sheffield Wednesday.

“Obviously age will catch up with you at some point, but I’m lucky that I’m slight in stature and light on my feet.

“Touch wood… I’ve not had many injuries over the years and that all plays a part in prolonging your career.”

How much does Barry Bannan earn at Sheffield Wednesday

Bannan has long been thought to be one of, if not the highest-earning player at Sheffield Wednesday, and perhaps rightly so.

Per Capology, Bannan is currently the highest-earning Sheffield Wednesday player, bringing home just over £24,000-a-week.

That equates to £1.25million each year, though said sources should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Barry Bannan’s incredible Sheffield Wednesday stats, including this season

Former Aston Villa man Bannan signed for the Owls in 2015. Since then, he’s made an incredible 414 appearances for the Owls, with 32 goals to his name and 68 assists.

And this season has seen Bannan rediscover his scoring touch, largely thanks to the addition of Shea Charles whose defensive capabilities allow Bannan to get forward more often.

Bannan already has two goals and one assist in nine Championship games this season, having scored once and assisted twice in 42 Championship outings last time round.

Right now, Bannan leads the team for accurate passes-per-game (37.2), key passes-per-game (1.9), and accurate long balls-per-game (3.7).
