Pundit makes baffling claim about Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium, he’s a Peterborough United fan

Sheffield Wednesday fans may not agree with talkSPORT pundit Adrian Durham’s latest take on the club’s Hillsborough stadium.

Sheffield Wednesday have been playing at Hillsborough for more than 100 years now.

It’s an iconic stadium of English football and one of the biggest too; it’s the 18th-biggest sports stadium in the UK and the second-biggest stadium in the EFL, with a capacity just under of 40,000.

Owls managers have often relied on home form to pick up wins, with Danny Rohl arguably no different.

Last season, Sheffield Wednesday placed 17th in the home form table, taking 31 points at Hillsborough compared to 22 points on the road, leaving them in 20th place of the away form table.

There’s often been some chatter on social media about the current state of Hillsborough, with many suggesting that owner Dejphon Chansiri needs to make some vital refurbishments to the general look of the stadium.

Adrian Durham ranks Hillsborough as the worst stadium in the Championship

TalkSPORT pundit Adrian Durham has now made a bold and somewhat baffling claim about Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium.

He’s ranked every ground in the Championship, placing Hillsborough last. Durham writes for talkSPORT: “A lot of it is very dated and badly needs upgrading.

“The low ranking may have something to do with a certain team bottling a 4-0 lead in the play-off semi-finals there.”

Born in Peterborough, Durham is a Posh fan, referring above to the 2022/23 League One play-off semi-final between Sheffield Wednesday and Peterborough United.

The Owls under Darren Moore lost the first leg at Peterborough 4-0, then winning the second leg at Hillsborough 5-1 on their way to promotion via the play-offs.

What’s been said about upgrades to Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium

Surprisingly, very little has been said about any potential upgrades to Hillsborough during Chansiri’s 10-year reign at the club.

Over the summer, there was more reports of improvements being made to the training ground, which is something Rohl wanted to see done.

For Chansiri, reaching the Premier League seems like a minimum requirement before he’ll consider making improvements to Hillsborough.

Like Durham says, a lot of the stadium is outdated and could do with some improvements. But in terms of atmosphere; when full, Hillsborough remains one of the most exciting grounds in English football.

To rank it worst of all teams in the Championship seems somewhat unfair.
