Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl spoke to the press on Thursday afternoon.

Sheffield Wednesday return to Championship action this weekend where they face Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

The Owls go into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw vs QPR last weekend, and a 1-0 win vs Blackpool in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Wednesday are winless since the opening day of the season and sit in 20th place of the Championship table.

Rob Edwards’ Luton Town meanwhile won their first game of the season last weekend, and currently sit in 19th.

Speaking to the press, Danny Rohl revealed Dominic Iorfa could make his return to action vs Luton this weekend, whilst Nathaniel Chalobah remains sidelined for a while longer.

Rohl discussed a number of interesting topics including the youth academy, with youngster Gabriel Otegbayo earning praise for his performance vs Blackpool.

Elsewhere, Rohl was quizzed on player contracts.

Danny Rohl set for Sheffield Wednesday player contract talks with Dejphon Chansiri

At the end of last season, Wednesday has a multitude of players out of contract, and it left the club with a lot of work to do.

They did well to get the likes of Barry Bannan and Josh Windass, among others, to sign new deals, but Rohl wants to avoid a repeat of that scenario.

Asked whether contract talks are already underway, Rohl said: “Of course. This is exactly now what we are working on.

“I had yesterday a talk with Kevin [Beadell, head of recruitment], now we will speak with the chairman about this.

“Which players we want to extend, which players we can extend, which player wants to extend, and then of course you will have some players, maybe where you speak in detail in January, not now, to see how’s the process.”

Sheffield Wednesday players out of contract in 2025

Sheffield Wednesday have started to keep hidden the lengths of certain player contracts, though there’s a few who are thought to be out of contract next summer.

Per Transfermarkt, all of Bannan, Anthony Musaba, Callum Paterson, Liam Palmer, Akin Famewo, Pol Valentin, Michael Smith, Marvin Johnson, and Pierce Charles are out of contract.

That should be taken with a pinch of salt, but potential contract expiries for the likes of Musaba and Charles may be particularly worrying for Rohl.

He’ll want his younger players kept around, ideally on longer-term deals, whilst the likes of Bannan and Johnson, and even Palmer could be let go to make way for younger names next summer.

There’s certainly a lot of talks to be had before the end of the season.
