Southampton star Shea Charles has excelled on loan at Sheffield Wednesday this season. Now, the Saints’ stance on a possible January recall has been revealed.
Shea Charles was the last of 11 new signings to arrive at Sheffield Wednesday during the summer transfer window, joining on a season-long loan spell from Premier League Southampton.
Since joining, the 21-year-old has started every league game for Danny Rohl’s side, playing 12 times in the Championship and scoring once.
Fans and pundits have been massively impressed by Charles. But given his fine form, Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday are worried about Charles being recalled by Southampton in January.
Saints boss Russell Martin discussed the possibility of recalling Charles back in October. He said he’s happy with how Charles is developing at Wednesday but didn’t rule out a possible recall.

Southampton stance on possible Shea Charles recall now revealed
Sheffield Wednesday News sources can now reveal that Southampton currently have no intentions of recalling Charles in January.
We’re told that Charles is very happy at Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton are equally happy with how much he’s progressing this season.
However, one thing to consider is Southampton’s managerial situation. Martin has been under pressure for a number of weeks and the Saints could change managers by January, which could have an impact on the club’s current stance on Charles.
Southampton currently sit in last place of the Premier League table following their promotion via the play-offs last season, having won just one league game all season.
Sheffield Wednesday meanwhile are in 15th place of the Championship table right now, having held their own in their first full season under Rohl.

Shea Charles stats for Sheffield Wednesday so far this season
Sofascore have Charles as the Sheffield Wednesday player with the second-highest average rating in the Championship so far this season.
The youngster, who captained Northern Ireland during the November international break, has a Sofascore rating of 7.07, behind only Barry Bannan on 7.26.
Charles ranks fourth at the club for average accurate passes-per-game (27.2), seventh for key passes-per-game (0.6), and seventh for successful dribbles per game (0.6).
It’s defensively where Charles shines though. He’s top for average tackles-per-game (3.1) and second for interceptions (1.7).
Charles has already been tipped to stay at Sheffield Wednesday beyond January with Southampton likely wanting Charles to get the game time, rather than join them in the Premier League and likely sit on the bench most weeks.
That’s certainly the case right now. But as ever, things could quickly change.
