Danny Rohl seems fearful of the possibility of losing a key Sheffield Wednesday player during the January transfer window.

Danny Rohl has Sheffield Wednesday back to winning ways, masterminding a 3-2 win over West Brom at Hillsborough last weekend.

For the Owls, it’s a first win since the opening day of the season, whilst the defeat was the Baggies’ first in the Championship this season.

Sheffield Wednesday have moved out of the bottom three and now sit in 18th place of the Championship table ahead of this week’s midweek fixtures, with Wednesday playing against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

It’s the first of many away games for the Owls in October. Wednesday play six times this month with four games being away from home; Sheffield Wednesday will travel more than 1,300 miles in October.

January could well be a crucial month for the Owls, as it was last season, with fresh legs and added quality no doubt needed by the time the winter transfer window comes around.

Rohl though seems worried about losing one of his key players during the January window.

Danny Rohl hints at Shea Charles recall fears

Shea Charles has been a hit with Sheffield Wednesday fans this season, following his loan move from Southampton during the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old has now started the last four Championship games for Wednesday and has quickly become a key player in the side.

Rob Staton hailed Charles’ performance v West Brom, and after the game Rohl hinted at fears over a potential Southampton recall in January, should Charles maintain his current form.

Rohl told The Star: “Hopefully we can keep him the whole season – you never know what happens if he performs in this direction.

“For me, he is a great player and you see what it means when you bring quality players in.”

Danny Rohl would need to replace Shea Charles at Sheffield Wednesday

Charles’ addition seems to have plugged a gap, allowing the Owls to be more attacking with Barry Bannan in particular benefitting from Charles’ presence.

But with Southampton struggling in the Premier League, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to hear more of a potential recall for Charles in the coming weeks.

For Rohl, Charles would certainly need replacing, with no current player up to replacing the Northern Ireland international in the middle of the park.

Before Charles arrived at Hillsborough, Wednesday were easy to cut open in the middle, with the likes of Liam Palmer and Svante Ingelsson simply different types of midfielders.

Replacing Charles could prove to be a very difficult task.
