Sheffield Wednesday are in desperate need of some January reinforcements, after a very mixed start to the 2024/25 Championship season.
Sheffield Wednesday went into this month’s international break on the back of a Steel City derby defeat at Bramall Lane which left them in 15th place of the Championship table.
It caps what’s been a very mixed first third of the season for Danny Rohl’s side who’ve so far put 18 points on the board.
It’s 12 more than they had at this stage last season, so there’s definitely some evident improvements being made.
But the Owls are too inconsistent, beating the likes of West Brom one minute but then conceding six at home to Watford the next.
Recently, Dom Howson has revealed Sheffield Wednesday’s dream scenario in January, which would be signing a new spine: a centre-back, central midfielder, and a forward.
Sheffield Wednesday have now been lifted out of embargo and so January signings are possible, though loan deals are still more likely than permanent deals.

Sheffield Wednesday tipped to be interested in Dion Sanderson at Birmingham City
This week, Sheffield Wednesday have been tipped to take an interest in Dion Sanderson who’s currently exiled at Birmingham City in League One.
The Championship-experienced defender has fallen down the pecking order and former Owl Carlton Palmer has outed Hillsborough as the perfect January destination for Sanderson, given Wednesday’s lack of options at centre-back.
A recent report from Birmingham Live though has revealed that Blues would want to sign a replacement for Sanderson before letting him leave, either permanently or on loan, with manager Chris Davies wanting at least two players in every position.
Blues only have four centre-backs on their books right now.

Sheffield Wednesday have one forgotten man who could play key role
Defensive options were thin on the ground for Rohl even before this season started, with a new centre-back still looking like a priority.
Max Lowe has been operating in the middle in recent weeks. He’s shone at left centre-back which is ideal timing following the injury to Akin Famewo.
Right now, Rohl’s fit and available options are Lowe, Di’Shon Bernard, Dominic Iorfa, and Gabriel Otegbayo, with Yan Valery having filled in at right centre-back on occasion.
But there’s Michael Ihiekwe still to return to action. The 31-year-old was a key player last time round but has missed the last two months with a niggling Achilles injury.
Little has been said about his return, though it’s not been revealed to be a major injury, and so Ihiekwe could be like a new signing for Wednesday in January or even before then.
It would avoid them waiting on Birmingham City to sign a new player, as to free up Sanderson, who received very mixed reviews at Championship level last season anyway.
