‘Rattled’… Sky Sports pundit left fuming at ‘stupid’ thing Max Lowe did for Sheffield Wednesday vs United

There were many frustrated Sheffield Wednesday fans after the 1-0 defeat against Sheffield United. And Sky Sports’ Don Goodman also shared some frustrations.

Sheffield Wednesday lost the Steel City derby 1-0, owing to a 50th minute goal from Tyrese Campbell at Bramall Lane.

Now, Danny Rohl will focus on the Cardiff City game at Hillsborough later in November, and the stretch of games between now and March with no more international breaks until then.

March also sees the second Steel City derby of the season, this time in S6. The Owls will want revenge, but they’ll have to be much better in the high-pressure moments.

Sheffield Wednesday fans were critical of James Beadle for Campbell’s goal which was very easily worked and very easily finished past the Owls goalkeeper.

Don Goodman meanwhile was critical of Max Lowe during the game.

Don Goodman fumes at ‘stupid’ Max Lowe during Steel City derby

The 27-year-old started against former club Sheffield United on Sunday. Lowe had been tipped to start the Steel City derby after a positive run of form in the side, and he held his own against the Blades.

But in the 52nd minute, just after Wednesday had conceded, Lowe gave away a ‘stupid’ free-kick, per Sky Sports pundit Goodman.

Sheffield Wednesday were on the ropes after the break and even more so after conceding, with Goodman saying the Owls were ‘rattled’ by the Blades’ goal.

Goodman said on co-comms: “They [Sheffield Wednesday] are rattled. That was a stupid challenge.

“You’re the team with the worst set piece record in the Championship. Why would you do that?”

Sheffield Wednesday’s set-piece record in the Championship this season

For a long time now, set-pieces has been a huge weakness for Sheffield Wednesday, to the point that the Owls had to appoint a set-pieces coach earlier this season.

Ben King was brought to Sheffield Wednesday to try and combat the issue. But Wednesday still boast the worst set-pieces record in the Championship.

So far, Sheffield Wednesday have conceded 10 goals from set-pieces this season (three more than any other team, with 25 total goals conceded in the Championship this season).

Like Goodman says, it was stupid for Lowe to give away needless fouls in the game, especially a foul close to the Owls’ penalty box.

Lowe wasn’t the only one, though. In a derby game, a few more fouls may be forgiven. But set-pieces remains a huge issue for Sheffield Wednesday and so these needless fouls must be avoided at all costs.
