Sheffield Wednesday lost the Steel City derby against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday, in another frustrating outing for the Owls.

Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United played out a close first half in the first Steel City derby since 2019, and many Owls fans on social media believed their side edged the first 45.

It boded well for the second half. But as they so often do, Danny Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday started slow, paying the price on the 50th minute mark when Tyrese Campbell netted for the Blades.

Wednesday battled until the end but couldn’t find a way through. They now sit in 15th place of the Championship table for the November international break.

Sheffield Wednesday fans fume at James Beadle during Steel City derby

James Beadle is a very popular goalkeeper among Sheffield Wednesday fans, and a very highly-rated one too.

Earlier this season, Brighton loan man Beadle trained with the England senior team. But on a few occasions this season, Beadle seems to have gone down or to have come off his line too soon, leading to goals conceded.

After conceding to Campbell at Bramall Lane, a number of Owls fans voiced their discontent at Beadle.

One fan posted: “Beadle should’ve saved”, another said: “Beadle stay on your line”, whilst one fan added: “Why did Beadle dive over the ball?”

Another frustrated Owls fan posted: “Beadle should be saving that. Any other keeper in the league saves that.”

Beadle has, on the whole, had a good season. But Campbell’s goal was arguably another he should be saving.

One fan added: “No hate at Beadle but no need to dive then stay on your feet.” Another posted on X: “Beadle should be doing better there.”

James Beadle admitted poor form at Sheffield Wednesday

Earlier in the season, Beadle gave a very honest interview at Sheffield Wednesday where he admitted that he hadn’t had the best of starts to the season.

He said: “It probably hasn’t been my best start to the season. But I back myself everyday in training, I back my coaches, and it’s nice to contribute today.”

After the Steel City derby, Beadle now has four clean sheets in 15 Championship appearances, compared to eight clean sheets in 19 in the second half of last season during his initial loan spell at Hillsborough.
