Sheffield Wednesday star admits he ‘probably’ hasn’t been at his best this season

One Sheffield Wednesday player believes he hasn’t performed as well as he could’ve this season.

For Sheffield Wednesday, it’s certainly been a mixed season so far. But performances and results are quickly improving.

Since the September international break, Danny Rohl’s side have lost just one in four, taking five points from a possible 12 to find themselves in 19th place of the Championship table.

Performances against the likes of QPR and Luton Town arguably deserved more than just a point. But the 3-2 win against West Brom was impressive.

On Wednesday night, the Owls drew 0-0 with Bristol City, earning their first away point of the season and their first clean sheet since the opening day.

Several players impressed throughout; Di’Shon Bernard was back to his best after a mixed start to the campaign.

Elsewhere, James Beadle impressed, with Dom Howson backing Beadle to go to the top after making a string of fine saves against the Robins.

James Beadle makes honest admission of Sheffield Wednesday form

Sheffield Wednesday re-signed Beadle on loan from Brighton during the summer.

Since, the 20-year-old has kept two clean sheets in eight Championship outings, having also trained with the England senior team during last month’s break.

He’s certainly well-regarded as a young goalkeeper. But he’s also got a lot of room to improve.

Beadle was criticised against Leeds United last month, seemingly going down too early and allowing Dan James to score an easy goal.

Speaking to the club after the Bristol City game, Rohl said that Beadle gave his best performance of the season at Ashton Gate.

Asked if he agreed, Beadle said: “Yeah, probably. As I say, it probably hasn’t been my best start to the season.

“But I back myself everyday in training, I back my coaches, and it’s nice to contribute today.”

James Beadle will only get better and better

When he arrived in January last season, Beadle was perhaps half the player he is now.

But he quickly improved. Beadle showcased great passing ability but also an amazing shot-stopping ability too.

Beadle has hailed goalkeeper coach Sal Bibbo who has worked at a Premier League level, and is no doubt playing a huge role in Beadle’s development.

As was the case last season, we’ll no doubt see Beadle improve rapidly throughout, in terms of his shot-stopping and his passing ability.

He’s set the bar high for himself with some good saves last season and this season. Now it’s about finding consistency.
