Sheffield Wednesday are still waiting for the transfer rumour mill to kickstart ahead of tonight’s deadline.

The Owls did most of their transfer business at the start of the summer, so it was never expected to be too busy this late on in the window.

However, after snapping up Shea Charles this week, Sheffield Wednesday were still expected to push for another attacker and a central defender.

It has been all quiet on the transfer front so far, but Danny Rohl has brought in a welcome addition to his backroom staff instead.

Sheffield Wednesday appoint ex-Coventry City man

Journalist Joe Crann wrote on X: “#SWFC have brought Ben King on board as a new member of Danny Röhl’s staff at Middlewood Road, Ben King – he has left his role as Accrington Stanley’s Academy Head of Coaching.”

King will link up with Rohl and the first-team following his arrival, with Accrington already confirming his departure from the League Two outfit.

Their statement read: ““Accrington Stanley can today confirm that our Academy’s Head of Coaching Ben King has joined Sheffield Wednesday’s First Team Staff.

“King, who arrived at the Wham Stadium 18 months ago, has helped to develop the Academy programme’s structure and organisation, as well as contributing to the development of Alex Henderson, Aaron Pickles, Anjola Popoola, Josh Smith, Charlie Hall, and Lewis Trickett.”

King began his coaching career with Watford, where he spent five years.

He went onto join UK Elite Soccer (now Steel Sports), before returning to a football club with Coventry City.

King has since moved through the EFL, working with Shrewsbury, Walsall and Accrington.

Rohl is building up a very strong coaching team

The coach is one of a number of fresh additions Rohl has brought since his own arrival at Hillsborough in October.

The German’s coaching staff have so far done a brilliant job as he has looked to drastically change the team’s playing style.

He is clearly a very good judge of character and it will be exciting to see how King can help improve things in Yorkshire.
