August promises to be a very busy month for Danny Rohl and his Sheffield Wednesday side.
Sheffield Wednesday play their final pre-season friendly in August, before kicking off their 2024/25 Championship season, with the summer transfer then slamming shut at the end of the month.
August then will be a very chaotic but interest month for the Owls who are merging as dark horses in the Championship following what’s been a very promising summer.
Nine new players have arrived and the likes of Josh Windass and Di’Shon Bernard among others have penned new deals.
Rohl is expected to complete some more transfer deals in August too, leaving Owls fans with plenty of be excited about as a new month gets underway.

Ike Ugbo joins Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday are keen to sign Ike Ugbo on a permanent deal this summer, and the Owls have been tipped to get it done.
Journalist Joe Crann has backed Sheffield Wednesday to sign Ugbo despite reports that he could cost the Owls as much as £4.5million this summer.
Ugbo’s parent club Troyes have been reinstated to Ligue 2 following Bordeaux’s demotion to the third tier, potentially adding another element of uncertainty to the deal.
But with the summer transfer window slamming shut on August 30th, if a deal for Ugbo is going to happen, then it’ll happen this month.
Young Sheffield Wednesday duo leave on loan
Sheffield Wednesday could send some youngsters out on loan towards the end of this month.
Expect Rohl and his staff to have some names in mind for who they want to send out on loan once they’ve finally decided who is and isn’t in their first-team plans.
Crawley have enquired about Pierce Charles recently, whilst fellow youngster Bailey Cadamarteri could leave on loan this month, especially if Sheffield Wednesday bring in Ugbo or another striker target.
Sheffield Wednesday emerge as early contenders in the Championship
Sheffield Wednesday have an interesting first four Championship fixtures in August.
The Owls play Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle at home in their first game, then Sunderland away, Leeds United at home, and Millwall away at the end of the month, with Sheffield Wednesday live on Sky Sports against Plymouth, Sunderland, and Leeds.
It’s a real testing four games against teams like Plymouth who may be expected to struggle, Sunderland and Millwall who could be mid-table contenders, and Leeds who’ll be tipped to be near the top.
Whether or not Sheffield Wednesday are contenders themselves in 2024/25 may be evident after their August fixtures.
Danny Rohl discovers Sheffield Wednesday weak spots
The first four games will not only show us how much Sheffield Wednesday have, or maybe haven’t, improved this summer, but it’ll also tell us where the remaining weak spots in the side are.
Sheffield Wednesday are light in midfield and at centre-back too, as well as being in need of one more striker.
Rohl may be fearing that the spine of his Sheffield Wednesday side is lacking depth and the opening games of the season will help prove whether that’s true or not.
Dejphon Chansiri considers Sheffield Wednesday sales
After a good summer transfer window, with a new contract for Rohl and money spent on the likes of Yan Valery and Olaf Kobacki, with a big-money striker signing in the works too, owner Dejphon Chansiri may be keen to make some money back.
That could come in the form of one or two players sales with Michael Smith linked with Rotherham United and perhaps an eligible sale should Wednesday sign another striker.
Other lesser-seen players could be deemed surplus to requirements depending on the club’s remaining transfer business in August.
The likes of Bambo Diaby, Akin Famewo, Mallik Wilks, or even Callum Paterson could come into that conversation should Chansiri need to make some money back this summer.
