This Sheffield Wednesday player has interest from another club in the English Football League.

Sheffield Wednesday finally have some younger talents emerging through the youth ranks and into the first-team squad.

Danny Rohl has completely change the landscape at Sheffield Wednesday, who before appeared reluctant to trust youth, and equally as reluctant to sign many younger players.

Since the breakthrough of Bailey Cadamarteri last season, a clear pathway has opened up for Sheffield Wednesday’s younger players, with Rohl showing clear faith in them.

The likes of Joey Phuthi, Gui Siqueira, Sam Reed, Sean Fusire and more have all either made their first-team debuts, or are knocking on the door of the first-team after impressing with the youth sides.

Goalkeeper Pierce Charles is another. Charles is held in high regards by the Sheffield Wednesday players and by fans too, with the Northern Ireland U19s man a goalkeeper with great passing ability.

Now, the 19-year-old has interest from another club in the EFL.

Sheffield Wednesday receive loan enquiry for Pierce Charles

There’s speculation that Charles will be loaned out this summer in order for the young shot-stopper to gain some valuable first-team experience.

He made his first-team debut for Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup last time round but appears to be down the pecking order as things stand.

James Beadle is the no.1 choice goalkeeper with Ben Hamer having arrived as no.2, replacing Cameron Dawson; but Hamer is currently injured.

Journalist Joe Crann has now revealed on X that League One Crawley have made an enquiry to sign Charles on loan for the 2024/25 season, following their promotion from League Two last time round.

Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday though are currently wary of sending Charles out on loan due to uncertainty within their own goalkeeping department.

Sheffield Wednesday have to make definite plans for Pierce Charles

There’s no doubt that Charles has potential; he’s a very contemporary goalkeeper in that he’s good with his feet, making him ideal for Rohl.

But his development will be wasted if he’s forced to play no.2 at Wednesday next season.

The Owls need to take measures to ensure that Charles goes out on loan this summer, and ideally to a club in League One or League Two where he’ll be getting valuable minutes and experience.

If needs be, Rohl should bring another Hamer-type goalkeeper to Sheffield Wednesday to play as no.2 or no.3 to ensure that Charles gets his much-needed loan move away from S6 this summer.

If he does, then next summer, Charles could be ready to challenge for the no.1 spot at Sheffield Wednesday.
