Danny Rohl must make some bold calls on certain players as Deadline Day edges closer.
Sheffield Wednesday have undoubtedly had a spectacular summer transfer window so far, and with August 30th looming, Danny Rohl can be confident that his squad is much more exciting in comparison to when he joined the Owls last season.
Rohl’s influence has undoubtedly been massively beneficial in targeting players, and his approach has been incredibly refreshing, with new signing Jamal Lowe notably thanking the German boss when he signed for a refreshing phone call that helped him decide to join.
The key target of bringing Ike Ugbo into Sheffield Wednesday following his successful 2023/24 campaign on loan from Troyes was met, albeit slightly later than was initially expected, and as a result, Rohl has a side with his own identity and the ability to do something special this season.
Whilst there has undoubtedly been a massive improvement in recruitment, there are still a few creases for Rohl to iron out before the deadline strikes, as it looks set that there will be more ins-and-outs at Sheffield Wednesday in the coming days, and there are five key decisions that he must sanction.
Move on Pierce Charles in loan deal
Pierce Charles has been given tastes of first team football by Danny Rohl since his arrival, with him most recently being handed a full 90 minutes against Hull City in the League Cup.
However, the lack of game time could hinder his abilities to develop into a Championship level goalkeeper, and with James Beadle in-between the sticks, there is far from any certainty that Charles will be handed a spell in goal in the league.
Bring in extra wing-back depth
In the wing-back areas, Rohl has done incredibly well to bring in Max Lowe and Yan Valery, who have already transformed Sheffield Wednesday’s wide-play.
However, there is very little depth in the position, and that could be made more urgent with the potential of Pol Valentin moving on before the deadline, which means that an arrival who can play either side should take priority.
Take advantage of Premier League loan market
Rohl has already spoken out about his desire to delve into the Premier League loan market, as they did to attain the services of Beadle for another season.
Whilst the attack and midfield aren’t in dire need of reinforcements, one-or-two young talents in that area could provide Rohl with an extra dimension, and more competition certainly won’t be a bad thing in terms of getting the best out of the current crop of players.

Bring in an extra centre-back to replace Bambo Diaby
Bambo Diaby completed a move to Spanish side Elche, leaving options fairly light at centre-back.
Di’Shon Bernard was re-signed this summer, however he has been the only centre-back arrival this summer, leaving just four in the first-team.
A loanee from the Premier League could also be beneficial in plugging this gap for what will be a minimal fee.
Loan out Bailey Cadamarteri
The Sheffield Wednesday striker was given an opportunity to lead the line for Rohl’s side last season after impressing at youth level.
Whilst he was able to certainly show promising signs on the pitch, Bailey Cadamarteri has now dropped out of favour with the German boss, and he now looks likely to secure a League One move on loan.
With the signings of Ugbo and Jamal Lowe, Cadamarteri is quite far down the pecking order, and any guarantee of game time for his development will only come from a drop down the leagues, leaving Rohl the necessary task of ensuring a suitable team comes in for the youngster.
