Sheffield Wednesday take on former Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom and his Preston North End side in the Championship on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday return to Hillsborough on Saturday where they host Preston North End, after what’s been a very successful last week on the road for the Owls.

Danny Rohl’s side came from behind to beat Derby County on Sunday, previously winning 2-0 at Hull City and now finding themselves in 12th place of the Championship table.

Next up is a winnable home fixture as Wednesday welcome a Preston side managed by former Sheffield United boss and Owls player Paul Heckingbottom.

The Lilywhites sit in 18th place of the table as things stand, currently being winless in eight Championship games, albeit drawing at home to West Brom last time out.

Sheffield Wednesday team and injury news for Preston North End

The big bit of team news for the Owls is that Barry Bannan is suspended for one game.

There was confusion over Bannan’s Sheffield Wednesday suspension recently, with the club stating that he now has five yellow cards for the season despite multiple databases only stating three.

Since, it’s been confirmed that Bannan is suspended for the game against Preston, and it’s going to be a huge loss for Rohl.

Elsewhere, Olaf Kobacki is poised for a Sheffield Wednesday return later in December and so he remains sidelined for the game against Preston.

Akin Famewo is also sidelined for a while longer, likely until 2025, whilst Di’Shon Bernard is available for selection after serving a one-game suspension against Derby County.

Ike Ugbo missed the Derby game through injury. But Rohl hopes Ugbo is fit to play against Preston on Saturday.

Early predicted Sheffield Wednesday lineup for Preston clash

Bannan’s absence certainly opens up a void in the midfield, and gives Rohl a definite selection dilemma.

It could be a straight swap for one of Nathaniel Chalobah or Svante Ingelsson: Chalobah impressed on his Sheffield Wednesday league debut against Derby whilst Ingelsson has been a useful and powerful outlet for Wednesday this season.

Dominic Iorfa was poor for Sheffield Wednesday against Derby County and looks set to be axed for the returning Bernard.

Josh Windass will likely start if he’s fit enough to do so, having started on the bench against Derby last time out.
