Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has spoken about a recent injury to an attacker.

The Owls are currently 12th place in the Championship after their recent brilliant win away at Derby County.

Danny Rohl’s side left it late, as Jamal Lowe’s goal in the dying embers claimed a brilliant 2-1 victory at Pride Park, and it was a goal that placed Sheffield Wednesday just five points away from the play-offs.

The game saw some interesting decisions made in regards to squad selection, with Nathaniel Chalobah returning to the squad following his lengthy injury, whilst Josh Windass was also included, despite concerns prior to the game that he may not be fully fit.

One man who was not involved in any fashion was Canadian international Ike Ugbo, whose fitness has been reviewed by Rohl following the 2-1 victory.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl opens up on Ike Ugbo fitness

Sheffield Wednesday attacker Ugbo signed for the club this summer, but has since struggled to replicate the top form that he showcased in the latter end of the 2023/24 season whilst on loan in S6.

The Canadian’s luck in recent times has gone from bad to worse after he sustained an injury that kept him out of action for the win against Derby County.

Speaking to The Star after the game, Rohl was quizzed on the injury sustained by Ugbo, and how long he will be out for, to which he said: “It is hopefully just a small one but it looks OK.

“Now the time is coming where if you have a small injury it can be one week but three games. It is good we have a normal week and we can use this for him. Dish(Bernard, suspended at Derby) is then back as well (for Preston), but you see we need a full squad.

“I am very happy that the subs can come in and it is great to see.”

Ike Ugbo may thrive off top Sheffield Wednesday form

There is no doubt that Ugbo was playing at the peak of his powers at the back end of last season whilst on loan from French club Troyes, and that correlates with the fact that Rohl’s side were on top form as well, putting in several miraculous performances to claw themselves towards safety.

However, the 2024/25 Championship campaign hasn’t been quite so positive for the Owls, meaning that Ugbo has been handed less opportunities, and as a result has seen very little success in front of goal.

With the increased confidence amongst the ranks in recent weeks, this may very well feed into Ugbo’s performances, and that would be crucial to ensure that the attacker can finally get off the mark and make a difference in his permanent spell at the club.
