Here are Barry Bannan’s top three moments in blue and white on his 35th birthday.

Sheffield Wednesday legend Barry Bannan has turned 35, and there is no better way to celebrate the Scotsman’s birthday than reliving his greatest moments in S6.

The midfielder has notched 422 games for the club in all competitions, and that has seen him accumulate 100 goal contributions ever since his debut 2015/16 season at the club.

Several moments have seen him time-and-time again write his name into the history books for the Owls, and there is no doubt that he will go down as one of the best players to grace the Hillsborough turf for such an extended period of time.

It was incredibly difficult to narrow down Bannan’s time at the club to three moments, but here are some that will certainly stand out for a long time in the club’s history…

Top performance for Sheffield Wednesday in THAT game vs Peterborough

What unfolded on that sunny evening in May 2023 will live long in the memories of many Sheffield Wednesday fans, and there is no doubt that the Owls faithful were treated to one of the greatest nights in EFL history.

Bannan didn’t get his name on the scoresheet against Peterborough, but his performance in-the centre-of-the-park was game-changing for Darren Moore’s side.

He even made no mistake in the nerve-wracking penalty shootout as he coolly slotted it past the Peterborough shot-stopper into the bottom right corner.

Wondergoal vs MK Dons

Bannan and wonderstrike are two words that are often used in the same sentence, and it is very difficult to single out just one of his strikes in blue & white.

However, one that does certainly stick out is his impeccable finish in the 2022/23 League One season away to MK Dons, which led them to a crucial 3-2 win on the road.

Not many professional footballers will have ever hit such a perfect strike as Bannan did that afternoon, with his 40-yard volley after taking a chested touch, which looped over the stagnant MK Dons goalkeeper.

Incredible showing vs Barnsley in League One Play Off Final

One of the most important afternoons in Sheffield Wednesday’s recent history saw them tasked with seeing off South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley in the 2022/23 League One Play Off Final, which they got to after the breathtaking comeback against Peterborough.

Such a game calls for your top players to shine, and Bannan did just that after controlling the game for the Owls.

He didn’t manage any goals or assists in the game that went to extra-time, with Josh Windass being the one to send the Owls fans into raptures, but the fact that he was able to captain his side to an iconic victory under the Wembley arch is worth more praise than anyone could ever deliver to Bannan.

The game also inspired this photo, and there is certainly no topping that.
