Sheffield Wednesday star Barry Bannan has posted a heartwarming message to George Byers on Instagram. The midfielder posted a message last night speaking of his pride at how the 2022/23 campaign panned out.
It’s been a frustrating second half of the season for Byers. He missed the final 12 games of the campaign with a hamstring problem but he was with his Wednesday teammates every step of the way.
Byers made 29 appearances for the Owls in total during the promotion-winning season. He scored six goals and registered three assists, often starring alongside Bannan in the Wednesday engine room.
The 27-year-old is tied down at Hillsborough until next summer. He’s approaching his peak and the man signed from Swansea City should be capable of starring in the Championship.
Darren Moore has instilled an amazing sense of team spirit at Wednesday. That much was evident as the Owls came from 4-0 behind to overcome Peterborough and reach the League One Play-Off Final at Wembley.
Byers is a key member of the squad and he will once again become integral during the 2023/24 campaign. He’s expected to recover from his hamstring problem in time for pre-season training.

The captain has been a fantastic player for Wednesday. He signed for the club from Crystal Palace in 2015 and has made 357 appearances for the Owls.
He’s been widely regarded as the best player in League One over the last two years. Now, he will have the chance to showcase that he can still cut it in the second tier.
Byers took to Instagram yesterday to speak of his delight at seeing the Owls win promotion. Bannan took the time out to send a classy response to a teammate he clearly values.
He said: “What a guy and an even better player.”
It speaks volumes of the man. Bannan has replied to most players who have posted on Instagram since the dramatic win over Barnsley at Wembley.
Next season, the Owls fan base will be hoping that Byers and Bannan can work in tandem to help Wednesday enjoy a quality campaign back in the Championship.
