Sheffield Wednesday may soon have a new youngster in their Championship first-team.

Sheffield Wednesday are placing a lot more focus on youth with Danny Rohl at the helm.

Immediately after Sheffield Wednesday appointed Rohl in October last year, the German boss spoke about his plans to introduce more youngsters into the side.

And that he has. Rohl has promoted the likes of Bailey Cadamarteri and Pierce Charles into the first-team, also handing debuts to the likes of Joey Phuthi and Gui Siqueira too.

Now, there’s a new name looking to follow in Cadamarteri and Charles’ path; Sean Fusire.

The 19-year-old midfield talent, who’s a product of the Owls youth academy, started the Carabao Cup win vs Hull City earlier this month.

Sheffield Wednesday fans were impressed by Fusire that game, though the Englishman was left out of the side that lost 4-0 vs Sunderland last weekend.

Now though, Fusire’s role at the club may have become clearer as we move into the 2024/25 Championship season.

Sheffield Wednesday U21s go up against Bristol City

Sheffield Wednesday’s U21s take on Bristol City at the Owls’ Middlewood training ground on Tuesday afternoon.

Neil Thompson has named several familiar faces in his XI, including Phuthi, as well as an unnamed trialist.

Not featuring in either the XI or the bench though was Fusire.

Given Fusire’s recent inclusion for the first-team game vs Hull City, it may be safe to assume that he’s also training with he first-team squad.

And given his recent exclusion from the U21s fixture vs Bristol City, it could also be safe to assume that Rohl has big plans for the midfielder.

Sean Fusire could be just what Sheffield Wednesday need

Fusire seems like a very well-rounded midfielder; against Hull City he showed his energy and passing skills, and also his physical traits.

He got about well and didn’t look out of place, neither in terms of quality nor stature.

And with Sheffield Wednesday lacking a defensive midfielder right now and arguably missing someone like Will Vaulks, Rohl may be tempted to mould Fusire into that Vaulks-type player.

Fusire has shown that he has the physicality to be that type of player and if he can keep on improving his passing and overall midfield game, then he could become a very good player.

We should know more about Fusire’s situation at the club when Rohl names his matchday squad for the Championship clash vs Leeds United on Friday.
