There’s an increasing amount of money being spent in the Championship, with Sheffield Wednesday among the spenders.
Sheffield Wednesday have spent their fare share of money this summer, in what’s been a very promising summer transfer window so far.
In the Championship spending table this summer, the Owls ranks 9th, following the £3million signing of Ike Ugbo earlier this month.
Owner Dejphon Chansiri has also spent money on the likes of Yan Valery and Olaf Kobacki, with 10 new players having arrived at Hillsborough this summer.
But it’s made for a mixed start to the 2024/25 Championship season with Sheffield Wednesday beating Plymouth Argyle 4-0 on the opening day of the campaign, before a 4-0 defeat vs Sunderland last weekend.
The Owls can still challenge near the top-end of the table if they sort their defensive issues out sooner rather than later.
Another team hoping to challenge near the top, but who’ve had a mixed start, is Luton Town; the Hatters have taken just one point from their opening two games.
But Rob Edwards’ side are closing in on a former Sheffield Wednesday man.
Former Sheffield Wednesday man Mark McGuinness poised for Luton Town switch
Mark McGuinness, 23, spent time on loan with Sheffield Wednesday during the Owls’ 2022/23 promotion-winning season.
The Irish centre-back joined on loan from Cardiff City in the August, featuring 17 times in League One and scoring once, before being recalled by Cardiff.
The former Arsenal youth man would go on to feature 30 times in the Championship last season, but McGuinness is now poised for a big money move to Kenilworth Road.

One Sheffield Wednesday man could follow in Mark McGuinness’ footsteps
£10million for a Championship player isn’t even a huge fee these days; Brighton have just signed Georginio Rutter from Leeds United in a £40million deal.
So for Sheffield Wednesday, and especially for Chansiri, the idea of developing these younger players and eventually selling them for big money is appealing.
And the Owls may be looking at Di’Shon Bernard as someone like McGuinness, who’s an exciting young centre-back, to go on and become a valuable asset for the club.
There’s others like Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama who could also become valuable assets for the first-team squad.
Right now though, Rohl will be focused on reacting to that 4-0 defeat vs Sunderland.
