Sheffield Wednesday target wows in latest performance, but Chansiri may still have reservations

Sheffield Wednesday are back in Championship action on Sunday.

Sheffield Wednesday travel to Sunderland in the Championship this weekend for a repeat of the final fixture of last season.

The Owls headed to the Stadium of Light needing a point to secure their own safety in the Championship.

Danny Rohl’s side eventually won 2-0. But Rohl’s current side are very different to the last one to visit Sunderland, and much-improved.

Sheffield Wednesday completed the signing of Ike Ugbo last week, taking their summer signings tally to 10 so far.

More look set to follow. This week, Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with several new players.

Though it seems like Rohl is most keen on signing a new central midfielder with Brighton’s Malick Yalcouye linked along with Fortuna Sittard’s Loreintz Rosier.

In the final weeks of the window, we could also see some more player exits, following Mallik Wilks’ loan move to Rotherham United this week.

Fans though want to see some more signings. And one potential signing wowed with his performance on Friday.

Sheffield Wednesday target Loreintz Rosier shines for Fortuna Sittard

Rosier, 26, is currently playing for Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard who’ve won both their opening league games this season.

Sittard are already three points clear at the top of the Dutch top flight table and are yet to concede a goal.

On Friday, they beat Almere City 3-0, with Rosier starting in the midfield and putting in a commanding performance.

Rosier had 60 touches of the ball and completed 38 passes on the night (third-most of any Sittard player), also recording three key passes (second-most).

The Frenchman also won seven out of 11 duels, winning the most aerial duels of any of his teammates (four).

Dutch football writer Martijn Schwillens hailed Rosier’s performance vs Almere, saying how he ‘dominated the midfield and was everywhere’.

Can Dejphon Chansiri make one more marquee signing at Sheffield Wednesday

Many expected owner Dejphon Chansiri to do some spending at Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

And many would’ve been happy with a small amount on a couple of players, which is what fans got early doors with the signings of Yan Valery and Olaf Kobacki.

But to then go and spend £3million on Ugbo was quite unprecedented, and it’s earned Chansiri a lot of praise from fans.

Whether or not there’s room in the budget for another player remains to be seen. Rohl will also want some resources for Janaury as well.

But a defensive midfielder is needed and Rosier looks like he’s hit the ground running this season.

Sheffield Wednesday need a physical, more defensive-minded midfielder like Rosier who can not only move the ball about, but win it on the ground and in the air.

The 26-year-old is out of contract next summer and so he may not break the bank.

But it’s money nonetheless, and Sheffield Wednesday may not have much left to spend after Ugbo.
