Sheffield Wednesday are on the verge of appointing German coach Danny Rohl as their next boss.

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly closing in on naming Rohl, 34, as their next manager, after sacking Xisco Munoz last week.

It’s an innaugural managerial role for Rohl who was most recently working as an assistant coach with the German national side.

And speaking to German outlet Kicker about his imminent Wednesday arrival, the former Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and Southampton assistant coach said that he views the task at Hillsborough as ‘definitely a big challenge’, but that he stands by his decision to join the club.

Rohl’s first game will be a trip to Watford after the break, with his first home game being against South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United at the end of the month.

“The club has a great tradition,” Rohl added. “There is a typical English atmosphere in the stadium. It was always my dream to return to England.”

Kicker’s report also reveals that Rohl has already been hard at work analysis Sheffield Wednesday’s performances this season, and that he’s already created player profiles for each individual.

‘A big challenge’ for Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday

Rohl has certainly picked a tough gig for his first managerial job.

But credit must go to him for having the bravery to take on the challenge. He’s got good experiences as a coach but how they’ll fare him as he takes over at Wednesday remains to be seen.

Though it seems like he knows his stuff and he’ll hopefully be a huge tactical improvement on Munoz who just wasn’t up to the task.

And credit must go to under-fire owner Dejphon Chansiri for getting Rohl, though the Owls owner still has a lot to make up for this season.

Sheffield Wednesday head to Watford after this month’s international break.
