A player from every Premier League club that Sheffield Wednesday can sign on loan in January

The January transfer window is just around the corner, and Sheffield Wednesday could well be a couple of signings away from having a squad that can push for the play-offs this season.

Danny Rohl has not only got Sheffield Wednesday playing exciting football, but more recently we’ve seen a more gritty and resilient side to the Owls.

Wednesday are currently 12th in the Championship table, but have to remain consistent if they are to keep climbing and stay away from any potential relegation fight.

We know Sheffield Wednesday will have to rely on loan signings only in January, but that doesn’t mean the club can’t find some game-changing players to add to their squad next month.

A player from every Premier League club who Sheffield Wednesday can sign on loan in January

Sheffield Wednesday can look at top flight clubs and find a hidden gem to sign from all 20 Premier League teams, and we’ve picked out some great options for the Owls here.

Arsenal – Maldini Kacurri

Sheffield Wednesday need cover at centre-back, and though he’s only 19-years-old, Kacurri has already turned out for Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and has been on the bench in the Premier League a number of times.

Aston Villa – Lamare Bogarde

If the Owls want someone a little more experienced to bolster their backline, though, they should look at Aston Villa’s Lamare Bogarde. The Dutchman was promoted to the senior squad over the summer at Villa Park, but has had to make do with a bit-part role so far this season.

Bournemouth – Owen Bevan

Bevan spent last season on loan in League One with Cheltenham Town, and at 21-years-old, he’s ready to step it up a notch and have a crack at the Championship now. The young defender can play on either side of the centre-back role, giving Rohl plenty of options in his back three.

Brentford – Yunus Emre Konak

If Wednesday were to lose Shea Charles to a recall in January, they’d need to fill that void quickly, and Konak could be the ideal enforcer to slot in alongside Barry Bannan in the heart of the midfield. He’s featured here and there in brief substitute appearances for Brentford this season, but needs regular game time to develop.

Brighton – Imari Samuels

With Max Lowe now a ‘vital’ presence at centre-back for Sheffield Wednesday, Marvin Johnson is essentially the only left-back in Rohl’s squad. Bringing in the young Imari Samuels from Brighton would be a shrewd move, as he can play deeper or as a more advanced wing-back, too.

Chelsea – Harvey Vale

Harvey Vale had a highly-successful loan spell at League One side Bristol Rovers last season, but the promising Chelsea starlet has remained in London for the first part of this campaign, and has found first-team opportunities impossible to come by.

The playmaker is Championship quality already, and needs to be allowed to flourish at this level. With the ability to play as a number ten, or out in wider roles, Vale could be a great option for Rohl to mix up his attacking roster.

Crystal Palace – Franco Umeh-Chibueze

This right winger finds himself in a difficult yet very exciting position with Crystal Palace right now, in that he’s too good for the youth team, but isn’t quite ready for the senior squad.

Umeh-Chibueze has been on the bench eight times already this season, but hasn’t made it onto the pitch. A loan move is surely on the cards soon for this flair player who could add something really interesting to Sheffield Wednesday’s attack.

Everton – Luke Butterfield

Again, if the Owls are to lose Shea Charles in the New Year, they’ll need a top replacement, and Luke Butterfield might just be the best option out there. He’s the Everton Under-21 captain, has a goal and two assists this season already, and is highly experienced at youth level.

Fulham – Luc De Fougerolles

We learned from the win against Derby County that Danny Rohl has squad depth issues in defence, and to combat that, he could sign this Fulham youngster who is capable of playing anywhere across the backline. De Fougerolles has even turned out for the Canada senior team already, and he’s more than ready for some regular game time at club level.

Ipswich Town – George Hirst

The former Sheffield Wednesday academy boy could come back home in January as he looks to play more consistently. The form of Liam Delap has kept Hirst out of the Ipswich team, limiting him to just 175 minutes of action this season. The only issue is whether the Tractor Boys would be willing to let their backup striker leave.

Leicester City – Conor Coady

With Ruud van Nistelrooy arriving at Leicester, players like Conor Coady may find their chances limited, and at 31-years-old, the defender will be desperate to keep playing as often as possible. If Rohl is serious about adding experience and quality to his backline, Coady would be an incredible player to recruit.

Liverpool – Jayden Danns

We have spoken before about how Sheffield Wednesday should take a look at Jayden Danns, and the truth is, they are unlikely to find a better young forward to sign next month. The Liverpool teenager is just back from injury, and needs a consistent run of first-team football to get himself on track

Man City – Jahmai Simpson-Pusey

Manchester City are blessed with an abundance of top quality young players, and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey has already shown what he can do for the senior squad this season. With Wednesday needing a new left-sided centre-back, and the young player naturally needing more minutes, this could be a match made in heaven if Pep Guardiola is willing to let him go.

Man Utd – Harry Amass

As we mentioned previously, the Owls really need a backup option for Marvin Johnson at left-back, and Manchester United are another club flooded with brilliant young talent. Harry Amass has been on the fringes of first-team football over the last year, but might find it difficult to break into Ruben Amorim’s new-look United side.

Newcastle United – Alex Murphy

Another option at left-back would be Newcastle United’s Alex Murphy, who recently stepped up from the Under-21 side to join Eddie Howe’s senior squad. He’s been on the bench a few times this season but is yet to make his debut for the Magpies, and must surely be on the lookout for a loan move in January.

Nottingham Forest – Emmanuel Dennis

The 27-year-old has not played a minute for Nottingham Forest this season, and really needs to get his career back on track while he’s in what should be his peak years. Emmanuel Dennis has shown glimpses of real quality in the past, mainly with Watford, and a spell in the Championship could be useful for him, while also giving Wednesday an alternative to Ike Ugbo in attack.

Southampton – Sam Amo-Ameyaw

Southampton obviously trust Sheffield Wednesday with their brightest talents, and Sam Amo-Ameyaw is thought to be next in line for a loan move. The young winger could gain valuable experience in the Championship, while also providing interesting competition for the likes of Josh Windass and Anthony Musaba on the right wing.

Tottenham Hotspur – Tyrese Hall

Whether Wednesday lose Shea Charles or not, they could really do with extra reinforcements in the middle of the park. Spurs have a lot of brilliant young players, but Tyrese Hall is one of the most promising, and he’s a very dynamic, tireless midfielder who could help bring some energy to the middle of the park when older heads like Barry Bannan and Nathaniel Chalobah are tired.

West Ham – Lewis Orford

Alternatively, Rohl could look for midfield additions at West Ham, with their Under-21 captain Lewis Orford. He’s been compared to Declan Rice, given his position, style of play, and leadership qualities, and he pretty much just needs six months in the second tier before he’s ready for regular first-team football with the Hammers.

Wolves – Justin Hubner

Hubner would be a bit of a wildcard signing for Wednesday, but he’s a left-footed centre-half who comes with a decent level of experience having played in the Netherlands, England, and most recently, on loan in Japan.

He’s also played 12 times for the Indonesia international team, and looks ready to make the jump to a more competitive level here in the Championship.
