Sheffield Wednesday are looking to make a big loan signing in January, but it would mean one fan-favourite Owls star would have to move on.
With Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Rohl looking to push on from last season and achieve at least midtable security this year, changes will need to be made.
The Owls have been struggling in attack this term, and fans are desperate for Sheffield Wednesday to sign Louie Barry to help in that area.
But, if they do, it will become even more likely that a cult hero will be sold in January. While sad, it would be for the best for all parties.

Callum Paterson is bottom of pecking order for Sheffield Wednesday
Callum Paterson joined Wednesday back in 2020, and his incredible work rate, passion, and commitment to the cause have endeared him to the Owls faithful ever since.
While not the most technically gifted, the ‘vastly-experienced’ Paterson always gives 100% and there would be more than a few Sheffield Wednesday fans that would be gutted to see him leave.
However, with the likes of Josh Windass, Anthony Musaba, Djeidi Gassama, and Olaf Kobacki on his way back from injury, too, Paterson is unlikely to see any improvement in his limited game time in the near future.
| Statistics | Callum Paterson 2024/25 |
|---|---|
| Appearances | 9 |
| Minutes played | 392 |
| Goals | 2 |
| Pass completion % | 42.1 |
| Shot-creating actions per 90 | 2.0 |
| Successful take-on % | 50 |
With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Paterson’s days at Hillsborough are surely numbered anyway, and the potential arrival of Louie Barry would only serve to speed up that process.
The departure of Callum Paterson is definitely one of the more realistic transfers Sheffield Wednesday will negotiate in January, and it would be good for the 30-year-old to secure more playing time as he enters the twilight years of his career.

Louie Barry can be answer to all Sheffield Wednesday’s problems
Sheffield Wednesday are one of a number of clubs keeping tabs on Barry ahead of a possible January move, as the Aston Villa youngster continues to excel on loan at Stockport County.
Barry can play across the front three, which would suit Rohl’s system to a tee, as we know he likes to mix up his selection and try players in different roles.
Bringing in a player of his quality and versatility would dramatically improve Sheffield Wednesday’s attacking options and could be the kick of motivation Ike Ugbo needs to start performing, too.
With Barry creating chances down the left, and Windass doing the same on the right, one would think Ugbo would have an endless supply of opportunities, and that front-three combination is a tantalising prospect.
