Sheffield Wednesday have a handful of players way on international duty right now.

Sheffield Wednesday have a number of international players in their ranks, and it’s certainly a sign of the club being on the up.

Jamal Lowe and Di’Shon Bernard are both away with the Jamaican national team right now, with Lowe receiving a late call-up.

Meanwhile, James Beadle is training with the England senior team, with fellow goalkeeper Pierce Charles on duty with Northern Ireland’s U21s, and Yan Valery representing Tunisia.

His older brother Shea Charles is representing the Northern Ireland senior team.

Charles joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Southampton last month, proving to be the Owls’ 11th and final summer signing.

And Danny Rohl threw Charles in at the deep end, starting him in midfield during the 3-0 defeat vs Millwall.

Sheffield Wednesday fans were impressed by Charles on his debut. He showed some steel; in the middle of the pitch which has desperately been lacking so far this season.

Northern Irish media rate Shea Charles performance vs Luxembourg

Charles started in midfield for Michael O’Neill’s Northern Ireland on Thursday night during their 2-0 Nations League win vs Luxembourg.

And the midfielder caught the eye with an impressive performance, earning a 7/10 rating from Belfast Live, and an 8/10 rating from Belfast Telegraph.

Belfast Live wrote: “Another tireless display from the young midfielder, a real driving force.”

Belfast Telegraph added: “Very tenacious throughout, helping dominate the midfield.”

Charles made two key passes on the night, with 22 accurate passes and a pass completion rate of 90.9%.

Charles also completed two tackles and one clearance.

Sheffield Wednesday have a gem on their hands in Shea Charles

After the first few games of this season, it was clear that Sheffield Wednesday were missing the defensive presence of Will Vaulks in midfield, and that someone like Charles was needed.

And Charles showed for Northern Ireland on Thursday that he can provide that same tenacity in midfield that Vaulks did, but also that he might have a better passing game than Vaulks.

That could make Charles perfectly suited for the style of play at Sheffield Wednesday.

Fans are excited to see what Charles can bring to the side in the coming weeks, and Rohl will be eager for the 20-year-old to slot in and help get the Owls out of this rut in form.

Sheffield Wednesday’s next fixture is a home game vs QPR later this month.
