Sheffield Wednesday currently sit in 20th place of the Championship table.

Coincidentally, Sheffield Wednesday finished the last Championship campaign in 20th place of the table, following their great escape under Danny Rohl.

But their form leading up to that 20th place finish in the 2023/24 season set a very high bar for this 2024/25 season, and so did the Owls’ seemingly impressive haul in the summer transfer window.

In total, 11 new players arrived at Hillsborough. And there’s been some exciting additions too. But so far, Sheffield Wednesday have struggled in the Championship, losing their last three games.

Last time out, Sheffield Wednesday lost 3-0 vs Millwall in a result and performance that’s really gotten Sheffield Wednesday fans talking on social media.

What are Sheffield Wednesday fans saying about Danny Rohl right now

Rohl will always have a place in Wednesday fans’ hearts, for what he achieved with the first-team last season.

And whilst hopes are still high for the long-term under Rohl, the short-term certainly needs some adjusting.

Several Sheffield Wednesday fans have questioned Rohl’s style of play of late, and how Rohl’s persists with the same style, despite what’s now been three-straight defeats.

One Sheffield Wednesday fan posted on X: “How long is Rohl going to persist with ‘his’ style of play?” and another added: “Is it just me who thinks Rohl’s being too narrow-minded tactically?”

Despite a tough tun of form, fans still rate Rohl very highly, with one adding: “We all love Danny Rohl but you can’t defend the last 3 games.”

The same fan added: “We looked better under Xisco Munoz. At least we didn’t ship nine goals in three games.”

Another fan echoed the Xisco comparison, saying: “Has Xisco come back in disguise here?

“Danny Rohl under pressure if this carries on. What on earth has he changed?”

Another fan questioned Rohl’s apparant tactical stubbornness, adding: “He has to change the style of play as it’s embarrassing how bad we are at the minute.”

Lastly, one fan made the point that Rohl just doesn’t have the players or resources to play the way that he wants to play football.

They posted: “Best manager we’ve ever had in the modern football era, but you [Rohl] don’t have the players or owner to do the stuff you want to do.

“Stop being so naive and all out especially away from home.”

Is Sheffield Wednesday fans’ criticism of Danny Rohl fair

When results turn bad, the finger immediately points to the manager, as it should do.

The buck stops with Rohl. Right now, results are poor, but performances are even more so, and that’s largely down to Rohl’s tactical game.

Having said that, many will agree that the players haven’t been up to scratch this season.

That would be Rohl’s defence, and it’s a fair one too; we’ve seen far too many individual errors leading to goals and if we eradicate them, Sheffield Wednesday might have a point or two more on the board right now.

Still, that wouldn’t be good enough. Rohl has set the bar for his side after their heroics last season and he’ll be confident of getting back into gear, and the fans should be too.

Rohl has done it once before, and now with a better set of players, he can surely do it again.

Sheffield Wednesday’s next fixture is a home game vs QPR later this month.
