Sheffield Wednesday are looking comfortable in the Championship currently but may look to add some extra quality to their squad in January.

Wednesday have been linked with Dion Sanderson so far as we begin to slowly move towards the transfer window, whilst Danny Rohl will be hoping to keep Shea Charles despite his growing list of suitors.

Rohl was urged to sign a striker as a priority in January, perhaps to help support Ike Ugbo who continues to struggle for form at this season.

One name that has sprung into the limelight is Louie Barry. Wednesday are keeping tags on Barry, who Aston Villa look to recall from his sparkling season in League One at Stockport County and test in the Championship.

Given that Owls fans were excited about the Barry rumours, here is everything you need to know about the free-scoring attacker who could find himself at Hillsborough in January.

Who is Louie Barry?

Louie Barry is an English forward, born on the 21st of June 2003 in Sutton Coldfield. Barry is currently on loan at Stockport County, where he has notched 13 league goals in the 2024/25 season.

Louie Barry Barcelona

Barry grew up in the West Brom Academy, before sealing a dream move to Barcelona in the summer of 2019. He became the first English player to join the Spanish giants’ ‘La Masia’ academy.

Why did Louie Barry leave Barcelona?

Surprisingly, Barry only lasted six months at Barcelona, with the club having difficulties registering him and the vast amount of young talent in Spain making it hard for Barry to settle in.

The Englishman would return to the Midlands to join Aston Villa in January 2020, where he remains to this day.

Louie Barry stats

Since signing for Villa, Barry has been sent out on loan to various teams in England. He scored six goals in 14 appearances for Swindon Town in 2022 but struggled to make an impact in subsequent loans at MK Dons and Salford City.

It has been his time at Stockport that has sparked Sheffield Wednesday’s interest. He scored nine goals in Stockport’s promotion-winning League Two season, earning himself another move there this season where he has scored 14 goals in 18 appearances in League One.

Is Louie Barry staying at Stockport County?

Whilst Stockport would love to keep Barry, it seems as though Aston Villa are looking to test him at the Championship level.

The Wednesday squad could hugely benefit from a reliable goalscorer which makes Barry the perfect option, to the detriment of Stockport and their ongoing promotion hunt.
