Dom Howson urges Sheffield Wednesday caution in January pursuit of ‘immense talent’

Sheffield Wednesday have been urged to look elsewhere in the pursuit for one top ‘talent’.

A recent solid spell of form for Danny Rohl’s side sees them sit 12th in the Championship table, following back-to-back away wins against both Hull City and Derby County.

They will be hoping to make it three on the spin this weekend as they welcome Preston North End to S6, which would certainly see optimism reach a new high, with such a fate set to take them closer to the play-offs if Rohl’s side can see off former Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom.

There is no doubt that Sheffield Wednesday currently find themselves looking up the table, rather than behind their shoulder, which is why they are set to make some new additions in January.

One man who has been linked with a move to Hillsborough is Aston Villa loanee Louie Barry, who currently plies his trade for League One outfit Stockport County. It would be quite a coup for the Owls, however, Dom Howson has urged caution with the current pursuit.

Dom Howson urges Sheffield Wednesday to be cautious in their pursuit of recently-linked Louie Barry

Sheffield Wednesday-linked Barry has bagged 13 goals in only 18 so far this season, in which he has helped catapult the Hatters to a lofty 5th place in League One, a record that was always going to keep Championship clubs on red alert.

The Owls are reportedly one of the sides interested in attaining the services of the former Barcelona youngster, however, Howson believes that it would be understandable if `Sheffield Wednesday decided that ‘looking elsewhere’ was their best option.

Via X, Howson said: “Not shocked Sheffield Wednesday are among the EFL clubs interested in Louie Barry if Villa recall him from his Stockport loan next month. LB is an immense talent and would be a top addition.

“But there’s lots of competition for LB so I can see Wednesday looking elsewhere for forwards.”

Sheffield Wednesday have key reason to not be put off by ‘competition’

There is no doubt that the majority of Championship clubs would bite the hand off of Aston Villa if Barry was offered to them based on the way that he is currently playing in League One, which obviously causes issues for Sheffield Wednesday in going for the top talent.

However, Sheffield Wednesday should not be put off by this, despite what Howson believes, and that is because the Owls have one clear upper hand in their pursuit for the winger. Danny Rohl.

The German boss has already gained quite a reputation for his brilliance in developing his current crop of players, from his stint at Sheffield Wednesday, to his time with Southampton, Bayern Munich and Germany.

This will undoubtedly work out in the Owls’ favour, and potentially catapult them to being one of the top choices as Stockport County’s successors for Barry’s next club.
