Back-to-back Championship away wins have seen Sheffield Wednesday begin to edge closer to the play-off chasing pack, but Danny Rohl is not looking to settle.
The Owls beat Derby County on Sunday, despite Wednesday fans criticising Dominic Iorfa’s performance as he deputised for Di’Shon Bernard.
Even Barry Bannan’s display had some Owls fans angry despite him scoring their side’s equalising goal. The three points have seen Wednesday rise to 12th in the Championship but Rohl will know that some of his side’s inconsistencies this season could see them slip back towards the relegation zone.

All attention therefore will turn to the January transfer window as Rohl looks to add to his Wednesday squad to keep up their forward momentum.
Louie Barry has been linked to the Owls so far, but Rohl has taken to the media to make it very clear what he is looking for in the window, much to the excitement of Wednesday fans.

Danny Rohl knows what he’s ‘looking for’ in January for The Owls
Speaking ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s clash with Preston North End, Rohl didn’t dodge the question of how active Wednesday would be in the transfer market.
He said: “Of course we have to look. We have to look for more players who can really make a difference to us, to our players here, I think this is the key. It makes no sense to bring in squad players in. It must be a real upgrade.”
Rohl continued, heavily implying that The Owls won’t be waiting around come January, with targets already being eyed.
He said “I look with Kevin [Beadell, head of recruitment], what is available on the market, which positions we need. I think there’s a clear mind for my part, what position, Kevin knows this, what I’m looking for.”
A decisive transfer strategy at Hillsborough is exactly what Owls fans would’ve been crying out for. With Shea Charles potentially being recalled by Southampton, it could be a season-defining transfer window in both directions, with the season’s stats showing a glaring area where Rohl could be eying.
Championship stats highlight key areas for improvement for Rohl
With the previously suggested Barry links, Sheffield Wednesday are clearly on the lookout for more forward firepower. It is clear when analysing some of Wednesday’s attacking stats this season that this would be a clever move.
So far in the Championship this season, The Owls rank 21st for key chances missed and 19th for shots on target per match. This is despite Wednesday ranking 10th for goals per match with a respectable 1.2, posing the question of how high that number could be with a more clinical forward in the squad.
It might not just be attackers that Wednesday will target, though, as they rank 17th for goals conceded and a worrying eighth for expected goals conceded, suggesting a need for a stronger presence in the backline.
Dion Sanderson has been linked with Wednesday and could help solve the defensive concerns. Whoever is brought in, though, it seems that Rohl and his Wednesday coaching staff are clear in their thinking, building up the excitement for the Owls fans ahead of a massive transfer window.
