Sheffield Wednesday fans all agreed on ‘shocking’ player despite Derby County comeback

Sheffield Wednesday shocked Derby County with a late win at Pride Park on Sunday afternoon, but one Owls player did not give a good account of himself.

Danny Rohl finally saw his Sheffield Wednesday side register consecutive wins in the league for the first time this season thanks to Jamal Lowe’s 94th-minute winner against Derby.

But, while a number of Sheffield Wednesday players scored highly in our post-match ratings, one player brought into the lineup for the clash at Pride Park didn’t have the best of times.

In fact, he was hooked off at half-time after a poor showing, and deservedly so, too, according to the Wednesday fans.

Dominic Iorfa heavily criticised by Sheffield Wednesday fans

Dominic Iorfa was handed a return to the starting XI by Rohl after missing out in the last couple of games, but the defender did not make the most of his opportunity.

Looking at Twitter/X throughout the first half, it’s clear fans were unhappy with Iorfa’s involvement, which included allowing Nathaniel Mendez-Laing space down the left, leading to Derby’s opening goal.

One fan wrote: “Dominic Iorfa, been saying it for years, a total liability, at least one mistake a game.” Meanwhile, another added: “How can anyone, I mean ANYONE think that Dominic Iorfa is a good player? He’s a total liability.”

That poor effort for the Derby goal was clearly a catalyst for the upset among the fans, with one claiming Iorfa was “totally asleep” in the build-up, and suggesting the defender is inferior to Di’Shon Bernard, while another described Iorfa as being guilty of “shocking defending.”

One fan even claimed Iorfa is now a “League One standard” defender, while another Owls supporter said: “How Iorfa in particular has survived this long at the club is baffling.”

Danny Rohl will be happy to have Di’Shon Bernard back

Thankfully for the Sheffield Wednesday fans, Di’Shon Bernard will be back from his suspension in time for the Preston North End game next weekend.

The Owls defender had picked up a one-match ban after receiving five yellow cards this season, but is very likely to go straight back into Rohl’s lineup.

Bernard has been a key player for Wednesday this season, contributing not only the defensive awareness and composure needed in this system, but also now chipping in with a goal, too.

It remains to be seen whether Iorfa will be given another chance in the right-sided centre-back role alongside Bernard and Max Lowe, or if Yan Valery will retain his place in the starting XI.
