Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with potential free agent signings since the January transfer window slammed shut.
Sheffield Wednesday are keeping tabs on the free agent market for any potential additions for this crucial final run-in.
The Owls were left wanting a new striker after deadline day after missing out on Duncan McGuire, with Kristian Pedersen’s injury then leaving Rohl on the lookout for a new left-back.
Another name linked with Sheffield Wednesday is Ravel Morrison, though Danny Rohl says that he’s not a player on the club’s radar right now.
Elsewhere, free agent left-back Nico Schulz has been training with Sheffield Wednesday.
Danny Rohl still scouring free agent market
Rohl has now provided a new update on Sheffield Wednesday’s hunt for free agent signings, telling The Star:
“I’ve said before that we always have our eyes open but we always have the situation and it does not make much sense to speculate or look to rumours. If there is someone we can bring in then we will try it. It is important to focus on the whole group here, to train on some basics and it has been great to work with the guys here.”
Why free agent signings might now be pointless for Sheffield Wednesday
There’s no doubting that Sheffield Wednesday would’ve wanted more from their January transfer window.
Although it’s since turned out that they’ve signed three key players in James Beadle, Ian Poveda, and Ike Ugbo, another striker would’ve been a welcome addition, and a fit left-back would’ve given Rohl some much-needed depth as well.
But at this late point in the season, the free agent market will really be slim pickings and finding a player on there who is not only good enough to improve the side, but also fit enough to come in and play a part in this final run-in, will be extremely difficult.
And right now it seems like Rohl is simply keeping an eye on potential options rather than frantically looking for free agents to come in at Hillsborough.
There’s also players returning to action like Dominic Iorfa who could make his return to action vs Bristol City this weekend, which will bolster the side in the final weeks of the campaign.
And after strong recent performances, there doesn’t seem to be a huge need for new bodies at Sheffield Wednesday, so free agent signings doesn’t seem like it’d make much of a difference for Rohl right now.
