Sheffield Wednesday now look set to miss out on yet another transfer target.
Sheffield Wednesday are enduring a rather stressful deadline day so far, having been given a glimmer of hope in their pursuit of Duncan McGuire, before it was dashed away once again.
As well as a striker, The Owls have been on the hunt for a new midfielder this month, with George Byers completing a surprise loan switch to Blackpool.
Tyreeq Bakinson also left earlier this month, while John Buckley returned to Blackburn Rovers from his loan spell. Having previously failing to land Conor Coventry, Sheffield Wednesday still need to bolster their midfield.
Football Insider had reported this week that Danny Rohl’s said were interested in signing Cardiff City’s Andy Rinomhota, who had only made one start in the Championship this season.
However, The Star have now reported that while their interest was true, it now looks like Rinomhota will instead join Rotherham United today.
The report claims that the ‘brilliant’ 26-year-old would be open to a move, but the ‘amount of moving parts’ that would have taken to slot into place in order to make a deal happen was ‘unlikely’.
It does mention that Sheffield Wednesday could instead look to revisit their pursuit in the summer, with Rinomhota only joining The Millers on loan.
Why can’t Sheffield Wednesday attract players?
While it is unclear what the ‘moving parts’ that Sheffield Wednesday couldn’t slot into place were, it is incredibly underwhelming that the club are getting beaten to players by the team bottom of the Championship.
They already missed out on Conor Coventry to League One’s Charlton Athletic, so it can’t be very promising for supporters to see how little pulling power The Owls actually have.
There is still time of course, but you have to feel for Danny Rohl having such limited options when looking to improve his squad.
