Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has suggested that the club might sign a free agent in this one position.
Sheffield Wednesday are certainly light after the January transfer window.
The club failed to sign a striker and could’ve probably done with a new holding midfielder as well, after recent poor performances from Momo Diaby and Will Vaulks in the middle of the park.
But after injury to deadline day arrival Kristian Pedersen, and Akin Famewo too, Rohl is all of a sudden very light on left-backs.
Marvin Johnson remains the first-choice with Reece James now the next, though James has had a very poor season, and Rohl says he could bring in a free agent to add depth in this position.

Speaking to The Star, Rohl has suggested that the club could look to recruit a free agent left-back after recent injuries to Pedersen and Famewo.
The Owls boss said:
“We are looking into the market, but the market is really special. Maybe we will find someone, we will have to take a look at how long Kristian Pedersen is out, how long Akin Famewo is out. In this position now we have a new situation and now Marvin has to play. This is our situation.
“We are always looking in front. At a moment I am pushing the topic from my side, of course we are looking, Kevin (Beadell, head of recruitment) is looking through the free agents but my focus is on my team and who I have at the moment.”
Sheffield Wednesday still playing catch up
Sheffield Wednesday have just had a whole month of the transfer window being open, yet they’re still trying to find free agents who’ve most likely not played this season.
Although the injury to Pedersen is unfortunate, the signing itself has now been pulled into question; why were Wednesday signing a player who had barely played all season, and throwing him straight into a fast-pace and intense side?
These question are for owner Dejphon Chansiri with whom the buck stops.
It once again highlights the need for a link between owner and Rohl and Beadell, a director of football to tie everything together so that things run more smoothly both on and off the pitch.
Still, there might be a hidden gem out there on the free agent market. Rohl will just have to hope that he’s fit enough to come in, play, and not get injured.
