Danny Rohl will be hoping one Sheffield Wednesday gem performs for the U21s this evening.

Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Rohl have managed very well in regards to the younger players within their squad.

Whilst the side is often full of experience, with Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer continuing to deliver this, Sheffield Wednesday have several younger players in-and-around the side.

James Beadle and Pierce Charles are prime examples, with the latter being handed an impressive national team senior debut with Northern Ireland at just the age-of-19, and there are plenty more youngsters waiting for their chance in the side, including Sean Fusire, who has been promoted to the first team by Rohl.

As a result of the poor form of Wednesday striker pair Ike Ugbo and Jamal Lowe, there is every chance that the goalscoring solution lies in the U21 side, and there is one player that Rohl may be keeping tabs on as he faces off against Sheffield United U21’s.

Danny Rohl will be keeping eye on Charlie McNeill for Sheffield Wednesday U21’s

Sheffield Wednesday’s U21’s face off against Sheffield United this evening, and there is no doubt that Rohl will be keeping a close eye on the tie as he looks to see who will be the next player to bring to the first team.

Charlie McNeill, who started for the U21’s recently against Coventry City in a 1-0 win was signed this summer and has only been handed first team game time in the EFL Cup, leading to Rohl making the decision to make him available for the U21’s, but with the current form of both Ugbo and Lowe, who have scored a combined one goal in the league so far, an opportunity could pop up for the former Manchester United youngster.

McNeill was deemed as ‘stunning’ after his Owls debut in the EFL Cup in an away victory against Hull City after he bagged two early goals, however a poor performance later on against Grimsby Town has seen his game time become very limited.

Positive Charlie McNeill performance could provide wakeup call for Jamal Lowe and Ike Ugbo

Sheffield Wednesday striker pair Lowe and Ugbo, who were both brought in this summer, have quite simply been nowhere near hitting the ground running, and there remains to be concern over both of the attackers, especially the Canadian international who is still yet to bag his first of the campaign.

If McNeill is able to perform well for the U21’s, the pair will be aware that their time in the squad could potentially be hampered, and if they have any more opportunities to lead the line, they must simply take the opportunities with both hands.

Patience is simply running out for both of them, and they have simply been one of the key reasons behind the lacklustre start to the campaign for the Owls, and if they don’t improve in the near future, it wouldn’t be out of the question for McNeill to return to the squad.
