Bayern Munich Sporting Director’s words about Danny Rohl four years ago clearly reflect the current state of Sheffield Wednesday.
Sheffield Wednesday are now over a year into Danny Rohl’s tenure at the club, and to say that he has massively turned around the mood in S6 and pulled the Owls out of the mire would be an understatement.
Under former Owls boss Xisco Munoz, Sheffield Wednesday lacked any sense of identity, and they looked as good as relegated, and there can be no understating how brilliant the German boss has been since he joined the club.
Admittedly, the start of the 2024/25 Championship campaign has been somewhat shaky at times, especially with the lack of confidence amongst his squad in front of goal, however it is clear that the side are playing with much more purpose, and it is clear that the current Owls set up matches up with the Bayern Munich’s Sporting Directors’ comments about Rohl back in 2020.

What Bayern Munich Sport Director said about Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl in 2020
The Owls boss took on the job at Sheffield Wednesday to mark his first ever role as first team head coach, and it is clear that this lack of experience has not hindered his capabilities in getting his style of play across to his players.
Despite being earlier utilised as an assistant-coach, he has still had the influence to get his playing style across to the players, and this was recognised back in 2020 by Bayern Munich Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic, who, per the Bayern club website, said: “As Hansi Flick’s assistant, Danny [Rohl] has made a significant contribution to ensuring that our team once again play successful and attractive football.”
Rohl spent two seasons with Bayern Munich before moving on to become assistant coach with the German International team.

Danny Rohl has implemented a sense of purpose in Sheffield Wednesday’s play
In comparison to the soulless outfit that was brought out weekly for a hammering under the inept management of Munoz at the start of the 2023/24 Championship season, there has been a massive turnaround in S6, and whilst there has been a slight drop off in comparison to the twilight of the last campaign, Sheffield Wednesday have continued to play with a sense of purpose.
Rohl is continuing to implement ‘successful and attractive football’, and it is only down to the current strikeforce of Ike Ugbo and Jamal Lowe especially not quite being up to scratch to get goals on the board.
The game against Luton Town for example showed Sheffield Wednesday being mainly defensive, but still showed an attacking threat that added that excitement, and this was also the case in the away victory against Coventry City.
Whilst the results haven’t all been positive so far this season, Sheffield Wednesday do still continue to play with an attractiveness to them, and once the fortunes of the strikers turn around, the Owls will return to a consistent winning form.
